Course Description:
The aim of Spanish III-Honors is to provide students the opportunity to advance their skills within the novice levels of speaking, reading, writing and interpreting the Spanish language. The units will expose students to relevant themes in our global world. Assessments will include presentational speaking and written tasks, interpersonal tasks, interpretive tasks, and grammatical and vocabulary tasks in order to monitor and evaluate the students’ progress. A final exam will be given at the end of the year.

Expectations
- Arrive on time and prepared to learn and participate in class.
- Be on task at all times and exhibit appropriate behavior.
- Be respectful. Clean up trash and do not write on desk.
- No food or drinks (other than water) in classroom.
- No cell phones. If I see it, I take it.
Consequences for not following class expectations:
- Verbal warning.
- Conference.
- Detention ILT.
- Call home.
- Referral.
- Administrative Intervention.
Materials requested:
- 2 composition notebooks.
- A folder.
- Ruled paper.
- Writing utensils (2 blue or 2 black pens, and 2 pencils)
- *A box of tissues (communal) is always helpful
- Hands sanitizer.
Grading:
(Daily homework should be completed each night and may include studying vocabulary, practicing presentational or interpersonal skills, completing a Rosetta Stone activity, viewing a Spanish program on the Internet or television, exploring another culture, and more.) There is no dropping of grades and our department does not accept extra credit.
All assignments are due at the beginning of the class, no exceptions. All make-up work is your responsibility. If you are absent on a day of an assessment, I will record a “1” for the assessment grade; this “1” remains until the assessment is made up. HW/CW grade that comes in late will only receive 50% of the grade. Late presentational assessments will be lowered one grade for each day your assignment is late, up to three days.

MYP AIMS
The aims of any MYP subject state in a general way what the teacher may expect to teach or do, and what the student may expect to experience or learn. In addition, they suggest how the student may be changed by the learning experience.
The aims of the teaching and learning of MYP language acquisition are to:
-- gain proficiency in an additional language while supporting maintenance of their mother tongue and cultural heritage -- develop a respect for, and understanding of, diverse linguistic and cultural heritages
-- develop the student’s communication skills necessary for further language learning, and for study, work and leisure in a range of authentic contexts and for a variety of audiences and purposes
-- enable the student to develop multi-literacy skills through the use of a range of learning tools, such as multimedia, in the various modes of communication
-- enable the student to develop an appreciation of a variety of literary and non-literary texts and to develop critical and creative techniques for comprehension and construction of meaning
-- enable the student to recognize and use language as a vehicle of thought, reflection, self-expression and learning in other subjects, and as a tool for enhancing literacy
-- enable the student to understand the nature of language and the process of language learning, which comprises the integration of linguistic, cultural and social components
-- offer insight into the cultural characteristics of the communities where the language is spoken
-- encourage an awareness and understanding of the perspectives of people from own and other cultures, leading to involvement and action in own and other communities
-- foster curiosity, inquiry and a lifelong interest in, and enjoyment of, language learning.
MYP Course Objectives
At the end of the course, students should be able to demonstrate ability in four areas of assessment:
- Comprehend spoken and visual text
- Comprehend written and visual text
- Communicate in response to spoken, written, and visual text
- Use language in spoken and written form
Approaches to learning
All MYP units of work offer opportunities for students to develop and practice ATL skills. These skills provide valuable support for students working to meet the subject group’s aims and objectives.

Communication skills / Use a variety of media to communicate with a range of audiences.
Self-management skills / Keep an organized and logical system of information files and notes.
