  1. Call to order – 7:07 start time

  1. Corresponding Secretary report – thank u notes get well Lisa Ford, Mr. Compton
  1. Treasurer’s report – posted online –paid out school trips $10 a student for all students
  2. Elementary School Report Mrs. Smith – Kindergarten – 20 frames in math, after break persuasive writing, 1st grade – measurement unit in math using string, paper clips, writing reviews about food, books, places they have visited, 2nd grade, flat Stanley books/presentations, 3,4, 5th grade – 3rd grade preparing for testing nonfiction writing with literacy coach, native American assembly (grant), 4th - electricity stem project – article about the 13 colonies, 5th grade, revolutionary war – battle they were interested in, poster presentation or google or PowerPoint, - smarter than a 5th grader last week – big turnout – grant for the book bins…….Looking forward to the Book Fair.
  1. Middle School report – Mr. Dusack – getting closer to Parc start on Wednesday – May 10th 7th grade class trip – volleyball –just for 8th grade students…. social studies start Greek mythology – writing a myth with the Greek Gods and Goddesses – crossing over subjects – practicing myths out loud….

6th grade – planetarium …….

  1. Principal’s Report – 3rd grade got a shipment of cabbage plants –full swing with Parc, grades 3,4,5 will be tested for technology and 6,7,8 at the same time………tv is up and running in the cafeteria…..middle school meeting talked about programs and electives for moving up fifth graders….two break out sessions – 6th grade project alert – 8th grade they get several sessions right after the Parc……yesterday Shakespeare Comes Alive – and 8th grade, lessons interacting with the characters….Paul Lechanski taking the Dis out of Disability program….he has had many surgeries and talked about how he overcame this…motivational speaker.

Screenagers – April 19th – students will see a movie/documentary/informative – will be at Orange and Hillside - .at 7 pm at night on the 19th at Hillside Avenue School. The Cranford Rotary was the sponsor for Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? Garwood and St. Michael’s as well.Each student got a $100, and each parent volunteer also got $100 – schools got a $200 grant.

Committee Reports

  1. Class Parent Committee – New program has been going well. She is looking for feedback.
  2. Fundraising Committee
  3. Tricky Tray – Went very well – reviewed what was successful and what needs improvement -
  4. Mighty Milers Committee – 2nd through 5th running and 1st grade on Mondays running……2 teachers running the marathon….
  5. Nominating Committee – Starting a Nominating Committee for Board Positions for next year….

Nominating Sarah Clarke and Danielle Oxley – and Christine, and Kelly as an alternate…..Voted and Approved.

  1. Previous Events
  1. K-5 Bingo – Sarah Clarke – bingo had about 75 kids – 129 pairs of socks – Theresa Snover is delivering socks to the homeless shelter. Mrs. McNally was the reader at bingo. Book fair was open that night and did well.

March 22nd – 4th grade engineering night – 50 4th graders were involved. Ms. Reed and Mr. Bosiano and Ms. McNally attended as well – 4 children won prizes.

  1. Upcoming Events/New Business
  2. BOGO Book Fair (4/3-4/7) – K-5 – Thursday and Friday – last book fair for the year….
  3. Spring Scramble (4/22) – one mile fun run……start at teachers parking lot…..K-8 and adults run it as well….
  4. Teacher Appreciation Week Events (5/2&3) – first week in May, luncheon and breakfast…..
  5. Increase the amount of money babysitters get paid to $10 an hour.
  6. Tabled Middle School Event –

Wants to have a DJ, board games, sport activities as well as a pool party.

Drop off at 7:45- picked up up at 9:45 – swim test by the lifeguards…..21 parent volunteers signed up – Cranford Police will provide lights around the pool. Forms have to be signed – students will not be released. A patrol car will come by during the area.

Date would be June 16th – 6-10 – It is also prom night.

2 parent volunteer meetings prior to the event.

$907 request for the budget.

X. Open Discussion -

PTC Member asked “Who covers the liability insurance?”

Any volunteers need to be PTA members.

Motion that would like the PTA to host a pool party hosted by the Hillside Ave PTA on June 16th from 8-10 located at Centennial Avenue Pool contingent upon the insurance approval. 1st and second motion approved. Vicki Spurs, Terry Hackt.

Motion for the Hillside Ave School at add line item for $1000 to pay for the pool party on June 16th – First and second motion approved.
