4-H Club Day is an opportunity for 4-H youth to share their project experiences and knowledge with others by giving a public presentation. They can also demonstrate their musical, talent, and dance abilities by giving a performance. Top winners represent our county at the regional club day in March.
Who can participate?
Any Marion County 4-H member can participate in club day. Competition is divided into three age levels based on the 4-H age:
Junior - ages 7 to 9
Intermediate - ages 10 to 13
Senior - ages 14 to 19
What about Cloverbuds?
Cloverbud members can participate in Show and Share; a special activity just for cloverbuds and first or second year 4-H’ers. They’ll talk to the Pickle Power moderator about something they’ve done or learned as a Cloverbud. Five minute time limit. Sign up at the Pickle Power table during Club Day. This event is not judged. In order to follow state 4-H guidelines they CANNOT participate in club entries such as vocal ensembles, model meetings and skits.
Other Activities!
Pickle Power - Practice your decision making skills! Sign up during club day. You’ll receive a pickle for your efforts!
FCS Judging Contest - Test your knowledge and decision making skills. Certificates will be given to the top three winners in each age division.
Table Setting Contest- Bring your own table and set it using your favorite theme. Rules will be available on our website under club days. Top two entries in each division will be eligible to complete in Regional Favorite Foods contest in June.
Additional Information
Score sheets will be available outside each room. Please fill in your name, age division, club name, and any other requested information. Give this to the door monitor who will introduce you & give the sheet to the judge.
Multi-Media Presentations will have their own competition. A projector will be provided. Bring your own laptop computer & extension cord. A copy of the 6-slide per page printed handout must be provided to the judge.
No livestock animals will be allowed in the building! Small animals are allowed if they are kept in a cage and brought out only during the presentation.
How do I sign up?
A registration form for individuals is on our website. Group event participation registration forms are submitted by the club’s community leader. Please complete and return to the extension office by the date listed in the newsletter.

Demonstration/Illustrated Talk
Show or tell how to do something relating to a project.You should have a finished product to show. / Junior - ages 7 to 9
Intermediate - ages 10 to 13
Senior - ages 14 to 19 / 10 minutes

Public Speaking
Speak on any topic of your choice using visual aids if desired. Must provide an outline of talk for the judge. / Senior - ages 14 to 19 / 15 minutes
Impromptu Speaking
Participants will draw a question of a general or 4-H nature then prepare and give a talk. / Senior - ages 14 to 19 / 7 min. prep &
15 min. talk
Reading
This may be a dramatic, interpretive, humorous, short book, selection of a book, or other type of reading. Does not need to be memorized. / Junior - ages 7 to 9
Intermediate - ages 10 to 13
Senior - ages 14 to 19 / 5 minutes
Model Meeting
Clubs conduct a meeting that depicts a typical monthly meeting of their club. An agenda for the meeting must be presented to the judge before the meeting. Minutes must be taken and presented to the judge after the meeting. / Clubs / 35 minutes
Skit or Creative Dramatics
Only minimal props may be used. / Any size group / 10 min. set-up
and cleanup

One-Act Play
Perform one act of original or published play. If doing a published play with a required royalty payment, the group must give the judge a receipt of payment before the play. / Any size group / 15

Talent
Perform any talent such as puppetry, ventriloquism, clowning, juggling, sign language, etc. / Any size group / 5 minutes
Piano Solo or Duet
Perform one piece of music. Memorization is recommended, but not required. Original copy of the music with numbered measures must be given to the judge before performing. Show and Share is intended for first/second year 4-Her’s or cloverbuds / This is a noncompetitive opportunity for new 4-Her’s to experience speaking, using any topic they want. / Five minutes max
The schedule will beposted on our website. Please arrive early so you will be ready when it is your time.
Do not enter rooms when a presentation is in progress.
Please be quiet in the hallways outside the rooms where presentations are going on.
If doing a project talk or an illustrated talk/demonstration, PLEASE clean up and remove your supplies from the table before talking with the judge. This allows the next person to begin setting up!
