KRIMMEL KNIGHTS SWIM TEAM 2015

This is a real privilege to have a 7th and 8th grade swim program! Not only is swimming fun and a great way for you to stay healthy and fit, but we hope to encourage you to be a part of the high school swim program when you get to Klein Oak. Not many school districts have such a program and it has proven to be a great way to “jump start” the summer league season for many of our swimmers as well as provides a first time team experience for many students. Also, for our year round swimmers, it is a great way for you to get the credit you deserve for your hard work outside of school. In high school, it is a wonderful way to get your PE credit, be a “letterman” and get a varsity letter jacket. While our season is very short, the high school season is very long and allows you to make many friends and have a lot of much needed support when you get to high school. Swimming is a sport which requires hard work and dedication to be truly successful. Let’s start now!

GO KNIGHTS!!!

PRACTICES:Begins Monday, April 6th See attached schedule for meets and practices.

Practices will be held every MONDAY – TUESDAY at the Klein Oak Pool. Club swimmers, see me for any exceptions.THERE WILL BE NO PRACTICE DURING STAAR TESTING. APRIL 20-24.

We will meet at in the back of Krimmel (by the athletic doors)at 4:00 to catch the bus to KO. Swimmers are to change in the KO locker room and promptly enter the water. At the conclusion of practice, PARENTS are to pick up their swimmer at the KO pool. It may be a good idea to pack an extra healthy snack to eat prior to practice such as a peanut butter sandwich, fruit, etc. and bring a bottle of water. For traffic purposes, we will be leaving from the gym area.

If someone misses an event or tells me before the meet they cannot participate they will NOT be entered in the next meet. Every swimmer will ride the bus to the swim meet but need a ride home after meets and practices.

Parents: We need timers and workers for our meets. Anyone with officiating experience, see Coach Gonzales(). Parents or older brothers or sisters may time. If you have other meet experience, please let the Coach know asap.

Meets: Please be sure to have your suit, goggles, towel, and clothes for over your suit (sweats are good). Also, drink bottles of any sports drink or water are recommended. A light snack is also recommended: turkey or peanut butter sandwich, pretzels, cheese, crackers are all good. PLEASE: NO SODA, CANDY, DONUTS, JUNK FOOD at meets! We need fuel for your body not wasted calories that will leave you flat in the middle of a race! We do transport swimmers to practice and to meets. See the schedule notes for approximate pick up times. We will not be bringing swimmers back from any meet.

Swim suits / attire:

SUITS: we have chosen a team suit that is available at a discount at the Swim Shop of the South West on Louetta Road. Please get in there and try on the suit and place your order ASAP! The team suit is OPTIONAL! However: GIRLS: no 2 piece suits are allowed for meets or for practice. Please wear a type of “racing suit” which fits appropriately. Any brand is appropriate if you choose not to purchase our team suit. If you have a suit there is no need to purchase a new suit. Special racing suits are not recommended at this level. BOYS: Boys are permitted to jammers. No suits past the knees for any one. Remember, baggy suits will “drag” so tighter fitting lycra (like a biking short) is recommended. If you are a swimmer, you should compete looking like a swimmer. Purchasing your suit and goggles is your responsibility. We supply a Krimmel cap. It is expected to be worn at ALL MEETS. You may any cap at practice.

GOGGLES: Please have at least one pair of goggles. I hope you will not choose to swim without goggles. Goggles are not provided. Clear goggles are preferable since we are swimming indoors. If your goggles come off, then see me about fit and dive technique!

CAPS: ONE Krimmel cap will be provided to each swimmer. It is mandatory for all girls to wear a KRIMMEL cap. Boys with longer hair will also be asked to wear a cap. If you wish to wear a silicone cap that is fine but at meets you will be asked to wear a KRIMMEL cap over the silicone cap. Please write your name inside the cap.

USA SWIMMING: Year round club swimming is available. There are many fine programs in our area. If you wish to go on to someday be a high school level swimmer who can qualify for Regionals and the State Championships, it is difficult unless you make that kind of commitment. See me if you are interested in more information. We will have some swimmers who do compete at the USA club level and I am happy that these fine athletes will receive some recognition. For KRIMMEL swimming, this is not necessary. We welcome all eligible 7th and 8th grade students interested in swimming and representing our school! If you do swim year round, please see me about your training schedule so I can communicate with your coach.

GRADES: As with all UIL activities, swimmers will be expected to have at least a passing grade in every subject at report card time. We hope everyone will be able to compete at Districts so keep studying, do your homework, and give it all your best effort in and out of the classroom! I must check eligibility of all swimmers. Please let me know if you had a grade of less than a 70% on your last REPORT CARD (not progress report). Let’s hit the books, I need everyone at Districts! Progress Reports can put you back into eligibility but does NOT take away eligibility.

PHYSICALS: All swimmers must have a physical on file beforegetting in the water for even a practice. If you had a physical last year, it is still good for our first week of practice. You must have a current physical on file in the PE office after the 8th. Physicals will be available through school. Be sure to ask the PE teachers for this date and from. You will ride the bus to KO and parents will pick up there. Several local clinics do physicals for athletes at a reasonable price. Call around for more information. If you participated in any other KRIMMEL team this year, please let me know so I can look up your physical record. All physicals are on KISD physical forms.

rules/ EVENTS: KISD junior high program will follow the NISCA High School Rules. Swimmers will be taught these rules at practice. Events will include a modified version of the high school events: 200 FREE, 200 IM, 50 FREE, 100 FREE, 100IM, 50 FLY, 100 BREAST, 100 BACK, and relays. There will be NO 500 freestyle as is done in high school.

This form is to be returned by April 6th or ASAP.
