Dear Families,I am happy to report our first month of school was a great success! The children are settled into their shiny new classrooms and the teachers are excited about their new students and all of their new surroundings. I hope you will find this newsletter helpful and informative. Please let me know if you would like more information regarding anything you read here. - Mrs. Caucci
Highlights from the Classroom
Mrs. Anglin’s Class pretended to plan and throw a party in the dramatic play area using all kinds of party supplies. Some students decorated while others wrapped presents (wooden blocks). They even shut of the lights and invited friends over to yell “surprise”!
Mrs. Bear’s Class conducted a “Super Science” experiment. Students got to create their own volcanos by sprinkling a teaspoon of baking soda into a small cup with vinegar. The lava and smiles were flowing!
Ms. Cassell’s Class set up an apple stand in the dramatic play area. The children really enjoyed taking turns buying and selling the apples to each other!
Mrs. McDonough’s Class made “snacktivities” where they turned snack foods into items from stories they read; such as the palm tree from Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
Mrs. McGinn’s Class explored their sense of touch (and got really messy) by playing with “oobleck” (slimy goop) in the sensory table.
Mrs. Skiba’s Class learned the song “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” and acted it out along with children on the Interactive Board.

Rock Wall Excitement
Each class visited our Motor Room this week. Mrs. Lescarbeau (Physical Therapist) and Mrs. Ingram (Occupational Therapist) taught each student how to safely maneuver across our new rock climbing wall. This activity helps to build strength, balance and coordination while also requiring the children to problem solve and motor plan… and they had a blast!
Second Step Lessons Begin
Mrs. Camelio (School Psychologist) visited each classroom to introduce the students to Second Step, our social-emotional curriculum. She will visit the classrooms each month to directly teach concepts; such as, identifying feelings, emotion management, solving social conflicts, and empathy using puppets, songs and picture cards. The children will have opportunities to relate the puppet’s experiences with their own lives and role play scenarios in which they must solve social problems.
State of the Art Technology
Each classroom is equipped with an Interactive Board created by Hatch, Early Learning Experts. These boards were specifically designed for preschool age children and are equipped with everything a preschool teacher could dream of! Teachers received training from a representative of the company last week to learn about all the amazing features of their new boards. The boards are loaded with over 1,100 skill based activities which can be customized by the teachers to tailor the activities to their individual students, groups of students and themes making the possibilities endless. The boards can even record how the children complete the activities, so teachers can review this information later and share it with you.
