Course Description: This course is designed to teach students Goal Setting, Personal Health, Substance Abuse, Reproduction System, Healthy Relationships, Basic 1st Aid, Communicable/Non-Communicable Diseases, Death/Dying education in accordance to Pennsylvania State Educational Standards.

Objectives:

·  Analyze the purpose and ways to set goals.

·  Analyze and apply a decision-making process to adolescent health and safety issues.

·  Analyze prevention and intervention strategies in relation to adolescent and adult drug use.

·  Analyze the anatomy, function and care of the reproductive system

·  Analyze factors that impact growth and development between adolescence and adulthood relationships.

·  Analyze the role of individual responsibility for safe practices and injury prevention in the home, school and community.

·  Analyze and apply strategies to deal with death and dying

Grading Method: Students will earn points based on projects, formative quizzes, unit tests and various classwork assignments.

Classroom Rules and Guidelines:

Participation: Students are encouraged to participate appropriately in all class discussions. Comments and questions applicable to topic dialogues are always appreciated.

Academic integrity: District policies and guidelines as outlined in the student handbook will be followed.

Homework and late work: Homework will be due on assigned date unless student is excused from school. Homework submitted after the given date will receive 50% credit. Making up work missed due to an unexcused absence or class cut will not be permitted.

Missed exams: Students who miss an exam due to an excused absence will make up the assessment on next day of class. Making up an exam missed due to an unexcused absence or class cut will not be permitted.

·  Responsibility for your materials. Bring your notebook, assignments and writing utensil to class [pen or pencil].

·  Respect for others. Treat teacher, classmates and classroom visitors with courtesy.

·  Your best effort. Be responsible for your own learning.

·  Listen when others are speaking. Do not carry on private conversations during the lectures, presentations or work sessions.

Advice: Students will be successful in class; if they come to class ready and eager to learn. We will have many class discussions and your appropriate input and comments are invaluable.
