Congratulations to all the Marching Jays and their families for making it through SPAT Camp! Everyone is doing a super job and we are off to a fantastic season. A special thank you to our Food Coordinators, Jason and Melanie Teachout and all the families who volunteered to host evening and Saturday meals and help out at lunches. The Marching Jays includes close to 140 students and it takes an enormous effort from many people to make everything go smoothly. In Waseca we are so fortunate to have a spectacular group of kids, a Band Director and staff who are second to none, and the Band Families (Band Boosters) are terrific! Thanks again.
Marching Band Fees
Student Marching Band Fees are now being collected. Mary Jo DeLaitsch will have a table set up inside the West doors of the Jr and Sr High School for your convenience on these evenings: Thursday Aug. 14th from 4:30 - 6:00 PM and Thursday Aug. 21st from 4:30 - 7:00 PM
State Fair Parade is Sunday, March 24th. These Marching Band Fees will need to be covered by the end of Thursday, August 21st, in order to participate in the parade.
Band Mentoring Program
We are trying something new this year. New Marching Band families will be linked to a veteran Band family to answer questions, give advice, and hopefully ease some confusion and feelings of being overwhelmed. Michel Sorenson is coordinating this new program. If you are a new marcher family you should hear from her soon.
Band Shoes
Band shoes should have already been fitted and ordered at 4 Seasons. If you have not yet - do it right away or you will miss getting in on the order.
Parent T-Shirts
Due to interest expressed by parents, we are trying to have Parent T-shirts printed. Attached is the tentative design that Terry Stahl has developed so far. 4 Seasons will also offer Band Boosters Sweatshirts again this year.
Band Garage Sale
The Band Garage Sale is on August 14, 15 and 16.Please donate your gently used items on Wednesday August 14 between 1 pm and 8:30 pmand on Thursday August 15 between 9 am and 3 pm at the Waseca Fair Grounds. Thanks to the Garage Sale Chairs: Michelle Aragon, Sammi Matz-Christ and Barb Hertzog and all the volunteers that make this happen. You guys are great! There are still some shifts where they could use more workers Friday any time from 8am-2pm and Saturday 7am-2pm. We are also in need of tables and clothes racks.
The Garage Sale offers a good opportunity to add to your Student’s Trip account. If your student is donating an item valued over $10 to sell at the Garage Sale, you can bring in the item and register it for student account sales. We will tag your item and if it sells you will get the entire proceeds in your student account. You must sign the account agreement and if you don't want your item to go half price or be donated to the Neighborhood Service Center, you need to pick it up by Noon on Saturday. If it is a larger item like a dresser you will need to coordinate your own transportation to and from pick up. Take advantage of this great opportunity to add funds to you student account for the trip this spring.
The Band will also have stadium seats for sale at $35 and Blue Jay Fleece Blankets for $30. The stadium seats really make a difference when you are sitting in indoor or outdoor bleachers -they also make great gifts.
Waseca Marching Jays Season Preview
On Thursday Night August 22ndat 7 pmplease join us for the Waseca Marching Jays Season Preview. It will be held at the Waseca High School Football Field Stadium and all family, friends, fans and alumni are welcome to attend. We all get to 'preview' what the final show will look like and help the Band celebrate all their hard work. Parents and other family members will have an opportunity to try their hand (and feet) at some marching practice. There is a small fee ($2) at the gate, the Band Boosters will be selling water, Stadium Chairsand Blue Jay Fleece Blankets.

When: Saturday August 23rdat 5:30 pm
Where: the Clear Lake Park Pavilion
What/ Why: The Booster Picnic is our big family get-together. It is a great way to meet the Marching band Staff, the Drum Majors, the students, the Band Booster Board, and other families. There will be a short Band Booster Meeting with important information about the upcoming year and sign-ups for volunteer opportunities. This is the official meeting of all the Boosters for the year and we need to have everyone there. It is also a casual potluck. Freshman families are to bring a main dish, Sophomores - salad, fruit Juniors - dessert, Seniors – Chips, veggies, munchies and your own plates and silverware. Beverages (water) will be provided. Be watching for your invitation/ reminder postcards coming in the mail soon. Don’t miss it!
Waseca Marching Jays at the Minnesota State Fair
On Sunday, Aug 24th, the Marching Jays will be marching in the 2:00pm Parade at the Minnesota State Fair. You can find a lot of information about the fair including discounts at: http://www.mnstatefair.org/
Parade Route - The 14-block parade route begins near the Haunted House, goes north on Cosgrove St., west on Randall Ave., and south on Underwood St. ending just south of the Haunted House. Parade units are announced at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell and the east side of Baldwin Park across from the Fine Arts Building.
Marching Band Competition -High school marching bands compete in the Minnesota State Fair Marching Band Competition sponsored by McDonald's during the State Fair Mall Parade. The judging area is located on Cosgrove St. between the northwest corner of the Administration Building and the south side of Dan Patch Ave.
