Heritage Project(Keep this handout in your binder) Name ______

  • The Heritage Project is due on or before Monday, December 7 at 8:00 am.
  • The Heritage Project is considered late after that date/time and a letter grade will be subtracted from the total score (10 points). Projects turned in later than December 14 will not be accepted. (One week late maximum).

For the next few weeks, our class will be exploring the theme of Heritage. Your child will be learning about his/her own cultural background through guided activities, inside and outside of the classroom. We will be dedicating about 2 hours each week in our classroom towards this project. Any addition time needed will be part of homework.

To get the most out of this project, parents’ involvement is very important. Your child will be asking you lots of questions to understand his or her own background. I hope that your child will learn lots about themselves and the world around them.

  • Any handouts will also be available at home once I have everything uploaded on our class blog.

The Heritage Potluck is split into 3 different dates so that we aren’t overwhelmed with so many items. Please check your child’s assigned date to bring in the food item. If the date assigned does not work, please let me know and we’ll adjust it to meet your needs! Students are encouraged to try most or all of the food items and will be expected to respect others’ favorite/special treats. They may also wear special cultural attires/clothing/accessories on any of these days!

For the food item you’re bringing:

  1. Bring in enough so that each student will have a small portionto try. We have 28 students AND ME! I suggest cutting or portioning so that it’s easier to give each student.
  2. Bring in the serving utensils needed to serve since I will not have these available.
  3. Please also write on the index card the name of the food item and the major ingredients so that we could avoid any food allergies. Sensitive ingredients are: meats, esp. pork, nuts, diary, wheat
  4. If your child has any food allergies or restrictions, please let me know as soon as possible so that we could avoid any problems during our potluck days.
  5. Donations of plates, small bowls, forks, spoons, and napkins will be appreciated!

Thank you so much for your hard work! I am definitely looking forward to seeing all the hard work that you and your families put into these projects!
