Here are some ways you can study your SPELLING WORDS!!

You can NOT do the same homework THREE times in ONE week!!

1. Rainbow Words- Write your words and trace over them in 3 different colors.

2. Ransom Words- Cut letters out of newspaper, magazines, or write them out on paper and cut them, then glue them together to build your words.

3. Hidden Words- Write your words and find hidden words in your words. Ex. that – hat – at

4. Word Clouds-use the Troy Isd web site under Useful Links and ABCya, 5th grade to create and print out (or email me) your word cloud using spelling words.

5. Vowels vs. Consonants-write the vowels in one color and the consonants in a separate color

6. Flashcards--make flashcards and study with a friend or adult

7. Word Search- Create a word search on puzzlemaker.com. Print it out and find your words.

8. Word Hunt- Search for your words in books/texts/newspaper or around the house. Write your words as you find them. Get out an old newspaper and highlight your words--bring it in!

9. Font-abulous- Type your words in 3 different fonts on the computer.

10. Chalk Talk- Write your words in chalk. You can do this activity with a dry erase board and marker too. Parent initials required in the agenda.

11. 3 Way Words- Write your words three ways, really big, really small, and in your best handwriting.

12. Word Boxes- Write your words. Then make boxes around each letter

13. Spelling Sentences- Write the word, use it in a sentence, write the word. Ex. cat I have a cat named Bangs. cat.

14. Pretest- take a pretest. Have an adult give you a pretest. They must grade it and help your check over each of your words. Write any incorrect words 3 times each. Have the test giver sign your paper.

15. ABC Order- Write your words in abc/alphabetical order.

16. Three times is the charm--write your words 3 times

17. Cursive-write in cursive

18. Spelling ladders- start with one letter at a time on a line, then on the next line add a new letter, go to the next line, and so forth until you have spelled the entire word EX: c

19. Letter count--count the number of letters in each word, arrange them in order from least to greatest

20.Creative writing--use your spelling words to create an original poem, short story, or song and get ready to perform for me!

21. Spelling Baseball- Draw four bases on a piece of paper or lay out four pillows to be the bases. The pitcher selects a word. If the batter can spell the word correctly, he moves forward one base. If the batter cannot spell the word, he remains where he is. A point is earned every time you pass home plate. This is a great game play with a friend, sibling, or parent.

22. Toss a Word- Toss (or roll) a ball back and forth with a partner. You say the 1st letter, and then toss and your partner says 2nd letter, and so forth.

23. Riddle Me This- Write a riddle for each of your spelling words. Don’t forget to add the answer to your riddles. Then have a parent, sibling, or friend try to figure out your riddles
