My desire, to be a SBDM council member, stems from my belief that only with a good education, and our children able to reach their full potential. Anyone who has ever red the School News section of the Sentinel-Echo, watched a county academic team tournament, or simply spent time with the many children in our area would have to agree that laurel County students have a tremendous amount of talent and potential. Education is the key to making that talent work for our students to guarantee their future success. The importance of education has been stressed to my children even prior to their beginning school. I have constantly monitored their progress and been actively involved in the decisions pertaining to their education. I want to use this experience to ensure that all students are able to take advantage of a quality education program that is focused on providing our children with the skills necessary to take advantage of any future opportunities that may be presented to them.

After much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to run for the vacant seat on NLMS’s SBDM Council. Not only is the education of my children important, but I also believe every student in Laurel County should have the best possible education available. Several years ago, I decided to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem and have since invested many hours into helping my children’s schools. I am a current member of the SBDM at the middle school, Secretary of the PTO at East Bernstadt Independent School and volunteer regularly for tutoring and school activities. I am no stranger to leadership and decision making either since I have have held several community and business leadership positions including bank board of director, church personnel committee member and the the leader of Corinth Baptist’s preschool department to name a few. My main desire as a SBDM Council member is to make a difference in the lives of not only my children but children as well.

As a parent, I believe in being the best advocate to improve education for all. Parent involvement is primary for student’s success. I hope to bring my experience in parent involvement to the sit-based council At North Laurel Middle.
