Henry County Emergency Management Agency, does hereby proclaim the week of February 15, 2016, as "SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK" in Georgia, and encourage our citizens to become more aware of severe weather safety measures and to participate in the various awareness programs scheduled during the week, such as Family Preparedness Day on Monday, February 8th, and the Statewide Tornado Drill on Wednesday, February 3rd.

One of Henry County Emergency Management Agency's (HCEMA) goals is to educate residents and make sure they are prepared should they ever face a disaster. HCEMA targets the entire Henry County population, including children. HCEMA feel that children are often the most eager to learn and can find creative ways to get prepared.
This year during Severe Weather Awareness Week (February 1-5) HCEMA is encouraging Henry County Elementary schools to become involved by participating in a severe weather awareness poster contest. The contest will be open to all elementary school students in Henry County and must address why it's important to plan for severe weather.

Students should share ways they will prepare for severe weather. Posters must be dropped off to the HCEMAoffice no later than February 5th, 2016.

The winner of the poster contest will be interviewed at the school campus by Mellissa Robinson Henry TV 14, Communications Director for Henry County, recognized at the Henry County Board of Commissioners meeting along with other prizes.
