POSITION DESCRIPTION
Evangelization and Faith Formation Director
REPORTS TO:
Pastor of the Parish
OVERVIEW:
St Michael Catholic Community in Calgary, AB is looking for the right person to encourage our parishioners to deepen their knowledge and love of Jesus and the Catholic Church so they can evangelize and make disciples of all nations. In this newly created position, the Director will empower our 8,000-member community to reach out to the more than 80,000 people who live in the St Michael’s Parish boundary. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) permanent position that reports to the pastor. RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Prepares an adult faith formation curriculum that encompasses programs and experiences people in all stages of their faith journey
  • Coordinates all evangelization and faith enrichment programs, including programs, retreats, speakers, seminars and presentations
  • Helps form and support small-faith sharing groups
  • Collaborates with parish volunteers who currently support adult faith formation
  • Works with both the Youth Minister to provide a bridge as youth move into adulthood and the Sacrament Preparation Coordinator to support parents preparing their children for the Sacraments of Initiation
Specific Requirements:
  • All other duties or projects as directed by the Pastor

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology or Religious Education preferred
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in pastoral ministry or related field
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral communication, basic computer and written skills
  • Ability to work on evenings and weekends in a flexible workplace environment
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • A fully initiated Catholic in communion with the Catholic Church
  • Comfortable with accountability and sensitivity to the observance of personal boundaries and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary’s model code of conduct.

Hours of work:
40 hrs/wk

Parish youth minister, parish volunteers
PLANNING AND REVIEW
The HR Policy recommends a minimum of two performance review sessions per year, once at the beginning of the year to set the stage for the coming year and a second one as a mid-year review to ensure priorities are still valid and on track to meeting your goals. For new employees, the initial planning session will occur at hire and will follow the planning/review schedule.
