Summary

The Facilities Director is responsible for ensuring the operations, maintenance, safety, and security of K-12 Jefferson Academy school buildings and grounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Building/Campus Operations and Maintenance

  • Manage and oversee building operations and maintenance.
  • Manage the facilities support staff to ensure high standards of cleanliness and operations.
  • Manage and contract for building services and grounds maintenance within established budget parameters. Ensure final approval is granted for all contracts that exceed a certain threshold.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for facility operations and maintenance, including preventative maintenance in accordance with any active warranties.
  • Manage maintenance requests in coordination with the staff and school administration.
  • Develop and adhere to facilities budget. Coordinate with administration, facilities committee, and the Board of Directors regarding the facilities master plan which includes long term planning for large repair/replace items.

Campus Safety and Security

  • Maintain a working knowledge of building safety and security systems.
  • Coordinate and conduct regular, periodic campus-wide safety inspections for compliance with all safety, regulatory,and operating policy requirements.
  • Act as main contact person and work directly with outside safety organizations such as Broomfield Police Department, Westminster Police Department, Jeffco Sheriff, and Jeffco Schools Emergency Management.
  • Work with school administration on all fire, tornado and lockdown drills.
  • Oversee compliance with hazardous material safety protocols.
  • Manage distribution of all building keys.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for all safety and security protocols and systems.

Facility Use and Rental

  • Support curricular needs and all CHSAA-related activities, such as athletic events, band, and forensics; and coordinate the non-school facility use schedule and supervision in cooperation with school administration.
  • Reserve facilities for non-school groups and ensures that any group reserving school facilities meets all financial and liability requirements before facility use.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for non-school facility use and rental.
  • Oversee and enforce facility rental policies.
  • Attend school events as necessary.

Building Modifications and New Construction

  • Manage facility improvements as directed.
  • Oversee new construction in coordination with relevant entities as directed.
  • In conjunction with school administration, present key performance indicators on the strategic plan related to campus development to the Board of Directors and community.
  • Ensure that facility improvement and/or new construction interruptions to school operations are minimized and assure integrity of operations and safety.
  • Update operating and safety policies and procedures to reflect facility improvements and/or new construction.

Other Duties

  • Work with facilities team on issues such as building use, operational and safety policies, and proposals for facility modifications.
  • Plan for and manage facility site work schedules; assignment of site custodians to meet job needs and alleviate problems.
  • In conjunction with HR and school administration, administer personnel policies concerning hiring, evaluation, promotions, transfers, discipline and grievance resolution.
  • Implement and conduct formal safety training for facilities personnel.

Education and Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred.
  • 5-7 years supervision experience in a related field is required.
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance processes and protocols is required.
  • Supervisory and budget oversight experience is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Colorado driver’s license is required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Equipment

Working knowledge of budgeting, contract management, federal/state/local building codes and regulations, and reading blueprints. Demonstrated initiative and skills in the following areas: relationship and community building, communication, creativity, problem solving, decision making, time management and conflict resolution. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of basic computer skills. Strong organization and coordination skills. Strong self-starter that possesses the ability to work with limited direction. Resourceful in generating creative solutions to problems. Ability to apply superb judgment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position assumes responsibility for supervising all custodial staff at each Jefferson Academy school location (K-12).

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policy and expectation documents, staff agreements, performance evaluation documents, and contract for services documents. Ability to analyze cost effectiveness of all contracted services and maintenance issues for the school, and make recommendations for improvements or changes as appropriate. Ability to speak effectively before groups of staff, Board of Directors, administrators, and parents.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts as required for budgets and interpreting statistical data.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment

The work environment described here represents what an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The hours may be long when specific needs arise, thus some extended schedules will be required. This is a position that must attend the needs of staff, administrators, Jefferson Academy Board of Directors, and parents. Work may consist of ten plus hour days with weekend work required from time to time. Adaptability to change is essential.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud.
