Hello Nursing Students!

Over the past year the Global Health Committee has been working on improving itself so it can better serve nursing students needs and be active in global health issues. The result of this work has resulted in a new design of the committee as well as a focused direction in the work that it will do.

If you are interested in international nursing, global health issues and social justice this is a committee you will want to be on. Below is a description of the various positions that are open to apply for. To apply for the position you must write a one page description of what experiences and personal attributes you have that would make you a good a candidate for the position. This must be emailed to by January 25th at 1700 AST. To be eligible for the coordinator positions you must be present at the CNSA National Conference 2013 in Halifax. Please do not apply if you will not be in attendance of the National Conference. Member at Large positions do not need to be present during the 2013 National Conference in Halifax, and any nursing student from a school in good standing is eligible to apply for these positions.

a)  Advocacy Coordinator – He/she plans and guides advocacy activities that take a stance on key issues outlined in Global Health Committee strategic plan. He/she maintains a working knowledge of the related legislation on these issues and other relevant policy issues and translates this information into clear goals and strategies for student advocacy. He/She plans and implements one major national advocacy campaign. He/she will also craft relevant and timely e-alerts to be posted on the CNSA website and various other social media networks.

b)  Fundraising Coordinator – He/she will work closely with the chair early in the term to determine fundraising goals for the year. He/she will research different causes for CNSA to support, the Global Health Committee will then present this to the board of directors for approval. He/she will work with regional directors and official/associate delegates to implement a fundraiser in each chapter school. He/she is responsible for tracking the money raised, and submitting this to the board.

c)  Education, Curriculum and Research Coordinator – He/she will advocate for curriculum regarding global health and cultural safety to be included in the nursing curriculum. He/She will be aware of new emerging research related to the issues outlined in Global Health Committee strategic plan and disseminate this information to CNSA members. He/she will partner with organizations involved with international health research and curriculum development while engaging nursing students in researching international health issues and presenting their findings at National Conference.

d)  International Exchange Coordinator - He/She is responsible for researching various exchange programs that CNSA could potentially use as an avenue for exchange opportunities. He/She will present the various options to the GHC, who will then present to the board for further discussion, approval and implementation. Upon approval

e)  Member at Large – He/She is responsible for attending the quarterly GHC meetings and offering advice, expertise and skills to the coordinators.
