Summer, 2017

Hello BJAMS Families!

This will be my third year teaching instrumental music at BJAMS! Last year was focused on growing the band for all BJAMS students. I started a new program for the Lower School students that included Boom Whackers and Hand Bells! The band performed at Spruce Peak and The Manor at Christmas. Memorial Day this year was spent at the VFW in Morrisville and the BJAMS band performed for the veterans indoors. This coming year I plan on having a concert for the veterans around Veteran’s Day. Stay tuned!

So how does one join the band? Simple. First, you need to be in 3rd - 8th grade. Second, have your student come up to me and say: “I want to join the band"! Send me an e-mail if you think your child has ‘an interest’ at least so I can make sure you are on the e-mail list for upcoming meetings! Here are some dates to remember if you are new members.

Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 6pm is a mandatory meeting for all NEW band families. This will be geared for the parents so I can answer any questions you may have. We will go over expectations, curriculum and rental forms. Students are also encouraged to attend so they can see, touch, and even play instruments. The meeting will be about 45 minutes.

We will be using Ellis Music again for our rental program. Ellis Music is usually in the area on Fridays. This will be covered during the meeting for new members as to how this works. For returning families, contact Ellis directly to schedule instrument rental and delivery. No new books will be needed for returning students. I will have the list of books needed for new students. There are also a few instruments at the school that students can use as well. Please contact me for a list of what we have.

Lower School students (3rd and 4th grade) and piano students will have lessons and band on Wednesdays. Upper School students (5th-8th grade) will have lessons and band on Thursdays. There will be a band schedule available once I know the full school schedule in mid-August. I am planning on starting lessons on September 13 and 14.

Please feel free to e-mail any questions you may have to me at . I look forward to expanding your children’s musical experience here at BJAMS!

Sincerely,

Holly Boucher
