CERTIFICATION OF EARNED DEGREES CONFERRED

Validity check of records, variables and form
Check for missing, invalid, out-of-range, or duplicate institutional codes and record identifiers such as line numbers, as well as needed institutional characteristics such as sector and level. R#1-This form is applicable to independent, degree-credit, 2-year, 4-year and graduate institutions participating in the Aid to Independent Colleges and Universities (Bundy) program.
Fatal error checks
An error message should be generated for each of the following relationships whenever they are not met [fatal errors may not be overridden by editor; must be resolved]:
· R#2--Horizontal add checks. For each of lines 1 through 21, the sum of retroactive and current degrees [columns 1-6], must equal the total number of earned degrees conferred [column 7].
· Vertical add checks. For each period of degree completion, retroactive and current, [columns 1-6] and total number of earned degrees conferred [column 7]
R#3--Line 3 + Line 4 + Line 5 + Line 6 = Line 7
R#4--Line 8 + Line 9 + Line 10 + Line 11 + Line 12 + Line 13 + Line 14 + Line 15 = Line 16
R#5--Line 17 + Line 18 + Line 19 = Line 20
R#6--Sum of Line 1 + 2 + 7 + 16 + 20 = Line 21
Comparison error checks
An error message should be generated when each of the following relationships are true [comparison errors may be accepted as 'ok' at the discretion of the editor].
· Year to year comparisons, current year (cy) vs. prior year (py)
Define: cy = current year total number degrees awarded (col 7)
py = prior year total number degrees awarded (col 7)
% CHGDEG = absolute value 100 * ((cy-py)/py)
Calculate: the % CHGDEG for each of the degree categories, R#7-- Associate, R#8--Bachelor's, R#9--Master's, R#10--First-Professional, R#11--Doctoral and R#12--Total , (lines 1, 2, 7, 16, 20 and 21)
Generate: an error message for each degree category whenever
0 py 100 and absolute difference (cy-py) ³ 35
or 100 £ py 500 and absolute difference (cy-py) ³ 35 and %CHGDEG 15
or 500 £ py and absolute difference (cy-py) ³ 100 and %CHGDEG 15
Whenever there are no data reported in a degree category for both the prior year and the current year, the category should be considered null.
