Heavy legs and swollen feet issues

Last update, May 6th, 2006

I am going to talk here about the problem of swollen feet due to an issue in the blood flow.

It is possible that the “swollen feet” problem comes from other reason, for example an oedema (different liquid than blood in the joint). Any appointment to a doctor will tell you which is the cause of the swollen feet.

The treatment is quite different depending of the cause, an infection might required some antibiotics or some homeopathic medicines such as Pyrogenium 5CH or 7CH.

What is following is the detailed story of my experiences after my 60th birthday, when I started suffering from heavy leg and swollen feet. The phenomenon became so important I had to adapt my shoes to my feet and I could move only quite slowly.

With the age increasing and especially around the sixties, the physiological problem of “swollen feet” (one or both feet) appears. This kind of disease or problems is always the topic of different cures more confusing than really helpful. (cold shower, feet bath, sleeping with the feet higher than the head, phytotherapies (cure from the plants) with random outcomes. Actually the problem can be quite simple and not really serious with sometimes the affliction self-heal. But it also can be very serious, even requiring surgery in some case when the veins are obstructed with bloodstone.

We then have to understand the mechanisms triggering this problem of “swollen feet” before actually starting any treatment.

Just remember that if this physiological status last, you might be in real trouble.

It seems obvious that with the age increasing the problem of swollen feet is linked to the blood flow in the feet and legs.

Lets go to the complex phenomenon of blood flow step by step, shall we?

The blood flow starts with the heart. The heart is a pump that pulse the blood to the muscle when contracted and suck back the blood to the lungs through the veins when releasing. The major component of the heart like every muscle is a protein.

The nature of this protein changes with the age allowing the heart to pulse the blood towards the muscle harder. This recent discovery proves that the genome, the DNA of the human race took into consideration the common effect of the aging. Meaning that nature took into consideration the fact that the vein and blood vessels get narrower due to cholesterol and sclerosis with the age increasing. By allowing the heart to pump harder it allow the blood flow to still reach the far part of the body (feet). But there is a downside to this phenomenon, during the phase where the heart releases the pressure after pumping; it is far less efficient to create a force that bring back the soiled blood to the lung and heart.

Consequence, the blood accumulates in the feet. It can then provoke some major physiological difficulties. We must keep in mind that the blood flow circuit is a “closed circuit”; there is neither a safety valve nor an area where the blood can stagnate. Blood is constantly moving from organs to organs in an airtight circuit.

The blood flow system mustn’t have any areas where the blood jams and stops, or the patient can suffer a major lethal issue: a venous embolism (stones of solidified blood that block the veins).

First of all, the veins in the calves. Like every human beings you have specials veins in your claves that drive the blood back up your calves. They are specially designed because of the standing position of the human being. To fight the gravity and prevent the blood to fall back down your feet, theses veins are not smooth and possess a kind of small jars on their internal wall.

The second issue that can be the consequence of the stagnation of the blood in the lower members, is a pain that appears in the calves and looks like a strained muscle.

Some people in their sixties or older can feel suddenly a pain in the back or the center of the calf when they are walking early morning or when they climb up the stairs. They can identify this pain as a slight strained calf and usually don’t pay too much attention to it. Moreover, the pain disappears in few minutes if the person take a break and rest his legs or the pain will decrease if they slower the pace of their walk.

But it might be something else than a strained muscle.

This kind of acute pain at the back of the calf can be the result of a growing thrombosis (the collapsing or closing of a vein by sclerosis or due to an accumulation of cholesterol in the blood) of one of the two veins that drive the blood to the feet along the bones in the lower leg.

The same kind of pain can be felt in the middle or more commonly at the side of one of the buttocks.

Theses symptoms describe a disease called Arteritis (don’t mix up with arthritis). Arteritis is caused first by the closing of the arteris due to an excess of cholesterol and the fact that the veins and arteris become more rigid (sclerosis) with the age, and for people who smoke or smoked in the past

Third point, and it affects both veins and arteries, is the mix of three problems already encountered.

  1. The progressive inefficiency of the arteries to provide the feet in blood due to sclerosis and excess of cholesterol
  2. The veins in the calves become loose and their internal structure is not as efficient with age.
  3. The heart, when getting older doesn’t “suck back” the blood to the heart through the veins with the same strength.

Those three factors can provoke the stagnation of blood in the feet. The foot will swollen and becomes the famous “swollen foot” that is going to decrease in size less and less, night after night even with the person sleeping with his feet above his head.

Finally if we are on the pessimistic side, we can end up with serious health problem, and wake up in an emergency room in a hospital to treat an embolism.

So what can we do? A million dollars question! People should treat the 3 issues simultaneously, but the major problem is the sclerosis of the arteries and veins that are more and more blocked with cholesterol.

First people should decrease or keep the cholesterol to a low level of cholesterol in blood (below 2,40).

I didn’t hear anything yet about allopathic cures to fight the rigid veins due to sclerosis. It might exist some treatment in hospital specialized in phlebology, but I don’t really know them either.

My problem of “swollen feet” appears in July 2004 and I was really scared that I would have to spend my time in bed. I used a lot of different and costly medicines and visited many doctors. I had very little result and my healthcare expenses skyrocketed.

While using homeopathic treatment I found an excellent and natural product from Germany called “BROT-TRUNK” or “ a solution of bread and biological leaven”.

You can find it in a bottle of 75cl to keep in fridge. It is available in few dietetic stores.

The French website where you can find details about the product is

, you will also find address and phone numbers of the French stores where the product is available.

This natural juice helped me lose 5 kg in two month without drastically changing my diet and it also helped to decrease my level of cholesterol.

This ferment is a powerful food item that helps balance the level of fat. It is made of real wholewheat loaf.

It is now February 2005 and my friends congratulate me about my loss of weight and about the fact that my feet look good and healthy

What do you want more?
