"Closing the Gap" is hosting it's second public forum on Saturday, July 16th from 10:00 AM to Noon at the Normal Public Library. This forum is entitled "Navigating the Jail: Before, During and After." We will have panelists from several arenas that will be able to speak to the current process and challenges for each phase. Our goal is to increase public awareness of both the challenges and the county's mental health action plan to address them, while giving voice to those with mental illness and their families and support organizations. We hope the forum will set the stage for continuing dialog about the challenges and help identity and prioritize solutions both public and private. Faith & Finances Facilitator Certification Course
WHO: Up to 16 participants who share the vision of the Chalmers Center to reach low-income people through financial education. Participants attending are affiliates of churches and Christian organizations through the US/Canada. They come from a variety of ethnic and denominational backgrounds –but all are working or desire to work in low-income communities in the US/Canada. As a prerequisite to attend, participants commit to:
Participate in online readings/discussions before the live event and receive a passing grade
Prepare to facilitate sections of Faith & Finances curriculum in advance of the training;
Attend the full 16 hours of the live training;
Train using the Chalmers Center’s approach to holistic ministry and facilitation methodology;
Maintain the integrity of Chalmers materials and provide feedback according Faith & Finances Certified Facilitator Training Agreement.
The training will be facilitated and coordinated by a Chalmers Center certified trainer and hosted at Home Sweet Home Ministries.
WHEN:
ONLINE COURSE: 4 WEEKS
The online course will run for four weeks. Participants are expected to put in 2-4 hours per week on average for reading and discussion. Online training will begin September 19, 2016 and continue through October 18th.
LIVE EVENT: 2 DAYS
Participants coming from long distance should plan to arrive on the evening before in order to be ready to begin training early on the first day. Breakfast and introductions will begin at 8 am each day. The training will run until 5 pm on Friday, October 28th through 4pm Saturday October 29, 2016 with one hour breaks for lunch and two short mid-morning and afternoon breaks. A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls -Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an evidence-based program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. Goals of the program include: viewing falls as controllable, setting goals for increasing activity; making changes to reduce fall risks at home; and exercising to increase strength and balance.
Who can attend: anyone who is concerned about falling; anyone interested in improving flexibility and balance; anyone who has fallen in the past; and anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns.

On Friday, July 8, 2016 a draft of the Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report for the City of Bloomington’s Community Development Division’s Program Year 41 (May 1, 2015 – April 30, 2016) will be available for public review and citizen comments. The document will be available between 7:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday – Friday at the Community Development Division at 115 E. Washington St., Government Center 2nd floor and the City Clerk’s Office at Bloomington City Hall, 109 E. Olive St., Bloomington, Monday - Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. It will also be available on the city’s website, and at the Bloomington Public Library, 205 E. Olive St., Bloomington during their normal business hours. Citizens are encouraged to provide written comments to the Community Development Division by Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 4:30 pm.
