* Masterclass: Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

This masterclass will explore the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and examine the practical implications for health care professionals. There will be a detailed analysis of what constitutes Deprivation of Liberty rather than restriction of liberty.

Delegates will have the opportunity to raise issues and concerns specific to their own practice. The course will be run by Kate Hill, a Mental Healthcare lawyer, and will be case study led.

Falls Prevention and Management in Older People
Wednesday 2 July 2014, Manchester
The conference opens with an update from the National Falls and Fractures Alliance on meeting the health improvement objective relating to falls in the NHS Outcomes Framework 2013-16. The conference continues with an in-depth focus on meeting the updated 2013 NICE Clinical Practice Guideline on Falls within falls and inpatient services including a focus on risk prediction and effective interventions to reduce the risk and severity of falls in hospitals. 26% of all patient safety incident reports from Oct 2011 to March 2012 were slips, trips and falls. The conference will also take a proactive approach to engaging older people in staying healthy falls prevention exercise. The afternoon will continue with case studies focusing on secondary prevention, managing falls, frailty and comorbidity, falls and mental health and managing falls and fractures in care homes. Through expert speakers and best practice case studies the conference aims to give you practical tools and ideas to improve falls prevention and management in your local practice and organisation.

Delirium
Implementing the New NICE Quality Standard

The new draft Quality Standard for Delirium was published by NICE on the 25th February 2014. The final quality standard is due to be published in July 2014.
