Health Team Relations Description and Objectives

Students will learn about potential health care roles and functions as health team members. Topics include terminology, history of health care, health care agencies, ethics, legal responsibilities, careers, holistic health, human needs, change, cultural awareness, communication, medical math, leadership, and career decision making.

Objectives of course are:

  1. To expose students to different health science information and encourage their continuing education toward careers as health care professionals.
  2. To provide guidance to students in making better decisions in health related issues.

Classroom Rules

  1. Respect others. During announcements students are to remain silent for announcements, maintained during the moment of silence and stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.
  2. Be prepared for class (having your notebook and paper, pen or pencil, ready to begin work).
  3. Follow ALL classroom procedures. Students are to stay seated during class unless class activity involves the student moving about the room. Sharpening pencils, throwing away trash and taking care of personal business needs to occur before the bell rings or within first 10 minutes of class during the Daily Review Activity.
  4. Sleeping/head down on desk will not be acceptable behavior in the classroom. Students are expected to stay on task.
  5. Personal Hygiene, such as application of make-up, hair combing/brushing and nails should be completed in the restrooms prior to beginning of class.
  6. Medical Terminology will be used at all times during discussions, slang will not be acceptable.
  7. Students are expected to treat educational materials with respect.
  8. Follow ALL school rules, including ones about dress code and electronic devices. Phones and other personal technology will not be needed in class. Phones are to be turned off and placed in book bag or in box on desk with phone face turned down. Phones will be confiscated if rules are not followed.
  9. All book bags. purses and lunch bags are to go under your desk or back of chair. You should only have your textbook, notebook, and pen/ pencil, on your desk. Athletic equipment will be placed at sides of rooms next to walls.
  10. No food is permitted in class. Only water in closed containers may come to room. All other drinks must be finished before entering room.

Consequences

  1. Verbal Warning
  2. Parent Conference
  3. Office Referral (***In the event of a disruption, the student will immediately be sent to the office.)

Classroom Procedures: Starting class & dismissing class:

Quick and efficient beginning of instruction is the key to good learning. Delays take away from instructional time. The end of class is under the control of the teacher. The classroom must be clear of all trash and clutter before dismissal. Chrome books will be put away correctly and accounted for by teacher ending class and dismissal.

  1. Seats are assigned – no discussion about this changing, except medical or vision issues.
  2. All students will be in their assigned seats by the tardy bell.
  3. Students will begin work on the “Daily Review Smartie” activity immediately.
  4. The teacher always dismisses the class, not the bell...remain seated until dismissed.

Completion and Turning In Classwork & Homework:

All students will turn in their work on time. Late work will not be accepted. The last day to turn in any current unit work is the day of the test, following the test day the work is late and will not be accepted. All homework or classwork will be placed in the appropriate tray. If a paper is turned in anywhere else, I will not be responsible for it being “lost” or “misplaced.” All turned in work MUST contain your first and last name and date of assignment. All hand written assignments must be completed in a neat and legible manner. If I cannot read an assignment then it deserves a zero.

Make-up work:

  1. You are solely responsible for obtaining missed assignments. All assignments will be posted to my web page and any handouts will be attached to your Daily Review Sheet upon your return. You have two days to make up work for each day you have an excused absence.
  2. If you were absent when an assignment was due, you must turn it in the day you return. Exceptions will be considered only with a note from parent explaining the situation of the absence that prevented you from completing it. (I.e. serious illness/injury, out of town for a family emergency.)

Leaving the classroom:

All students must request permission to leave the classroom. Each block has 5 minutes between blocks for restroom use, use this time, not classroom time. You have been given 6 emergency restroom passes, you may also use them for assignment passes. I understand you may occasionally need the restroom during class time. In my classroom, you may ot leave any time there is active classroom instruction. During individual assignments and when students are working on their own, you will be allowed to use your emergency passes, Cell phones may not accompany you to the restroom, they will remain in your book sac or in the container on your desk.

Tests: All tests are announced at least two days in advance.

  1. Students who miss the test will take it the day they return. Make-up quizzes and classwork are scheduled during West Success.
  2. Tests must be made up before the next unit test, which is generally the next week. Tests that are not made-up will result in a zero in the grade book.
  3. This course has a required midterm & final exam; the midterm is counted as a regular test grade, and the final exam counts as 20% of the final grade. Seniors are required to take both exams.

Grading Policy:

Tests = 30%

Quizzes = 20%

Classwork/Homework = 30% (classwork assignments, group activities)

Projects = 20%

At the end of the course there is a NC DPI final exam inclusive of all materials covered throughout the semester. It is worth 20% of your final semester grade. Keep all of your work for final exam review.

Necessary Supplies:

  1. Three ring binder with loose leaf paper and dividers for each unit would be helpful
  2. Pencil, black/blue ink pens
  3. Colored markers or pencils.
