3. Ideas for submission of symposium and/or posters for the WHI Investigator meeting
May 2-3, Seattle /
  • Discussion related to handout from Karen.
  • Possible presentations and presenters:
  • Elizabeth Habermann’s FFS vs. Managed Care Analyses
  • Anna Kucharska-Newton’s study on outpatient care following MI
  • Matthew Mell and Mark Hlatky – Comparison of agreement between WHI and CMS Data for AAA, Carotid Disease and PAD as well as Hormone Trial results comparing CMS data and WHI adjudication for both PAD and CHD.
  • Dominic Cirillo and Dale Burwen – Venous Thromboembolism studies on incidence, occurrence, and mortality.
  • Data presented last year on Agreement/Validation Studies on all of the CVD outcomes could be updated(except Heart Failure which has not started yet).
  • Time for questions/discussion should be built into the proposal, possibly including a panel following the completion of the presentations.
  • Travel funds will be available for presentation speakers.
  • Travel funds are not available for poster presenters, except for a limited number of competitive awards.

  1. Karen Margolis will compose the symposium submission for the WHI HSR SIG with the assistance of Dale Burwen, Mark Hlatky, Matthew Mell, Elizabeth Habermann, Dominic Cirillo, and Anna Kucharska-Newton.

4. Updates /
  • Karen shared the following information: For the WHI paper writing group announcements that are forwarded periodically– if you are listed as an investigator or consultant on a subcontract to one of the regional centers then you should now be able to nominate yourself for a paper without having to go through one of the PI’s.
  • Obtain an individual SharePoint account user name and password from Joshua Loomis at the WHI CCC, . If you use the Midwest regional center one that was distributed earlier you will be able to enter the website but you will not be able to do the self-nomination.
  • February 1, 2013 WHI HSR SIG conference call presentation: Josh Roth from the WHI CCC on an “Analysis of Value of Information about the Hormone Trial”.
  • March 1, 2013 WHI HSR SIG conference call presentation: Anna Kucharska-Newton will present some data using the WHI feasibility funds looking at Continuity of Care. This is in the ARIC population using their Medicare linkage but is directly related to work that she plans to do with WHI.
