Assignments:

Assignments are an important element of education. Assignments solidify current knowledge and skills as well as provide an environment to develop new and different ideas and strategies.

Completion of assignments is not a necessary evil but a road to personal success.

I know that students can achieve personal success; therefore I expect them to complete their assignments. Completion of assignments will require effort during class as well as outside of the classroom.

Important: Save notes, handouts, etc. from all HST classes as we will build upon the previous knowledge obtained.

Late work: late work is defined as any work not turned in on the class day it is due (not including make-up work due to absence). Late work will be deducted 10 points for each day late.

Healthcare is a highly responsible profession and learning to keep up with assignments and due dates is one of the first steps in responsibility. All due dates will be listed on the board and my website.

Make-up work - make-up work is defined as missing work due to an absence. If the student is absent due to illness or school related activity (such as a sporting event), it is the student’s responsibility to find out what work they missed on their first day back to school. Remember, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain missing assignments from me and turn them in according to the following timeline: 1 day absence – day following return to school, 2 day absence – 2 days after return to school, etc.

Make-up Work not completed within the above timeline will follow the late work policy listed above. Reminder – please let me know of any extenuating circumstances so we can work together to help you/your student be successful in this course.

Academic Dishonesty: Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Examples of academic dishonesty can include plagiarism (on a test, homework or class assignment), cheating, and collusion. Students that provide information to another student in a dishonest way are just as guilty of academic dishonesty as the student who receives the information; both students will receive the same grading penalty. Cheating on an assignment or test will result in a zero being recorded for that assignment or test. Academic dishonesty is an automatic referral and will be subject to additional disciplinary measures.

Web Site: I have a web site located within the BHS page where you will find important information about what is happening in our classroom. This is my main source of information to you as a student or parent. Please subscribe to my teacher webpage and you will be notified of any changes or updates such as upcoming assignments, tests, important dates, etc.

Student Organization:

All Health Science students are strongly encouraged to join and participate in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). HOSA activities help students develop leadership and health care related skills in addition to providing an opportunity to meet students with similar interests. HOSA has different meetings and competitions available to students on the district, state, and national levels. In addition to providing fun filled activities, it may be helpful to know that most colleges and employers now look for this type of activity on applications or resumes. Any student with an interest in healthcare is eligible to participate in HOSA.
