Council Action Plan for 2015/2016 Academic Year

In setting out their goals for the upcoming academic year, the council identified the following priorities:

  • Campus-wide safety training
  • Bicycle safety
  • Crosswalks from the new Welcome Center in Munson (and eventually Old Heat) to the main campus

Other priorities may develop over time.

Summer Meeting Schedule

The group agreed to cancel the June meeting. The council will meet at the regularly scheduled time in July and will, at that time, evaluate the need for an August meeting. The regularly scheduled meetings will continue to be the last Wednesday of the month, at 10 a.m. in Jongeward 116.

Bus Access and Turn Arounds

Michael Luvera explained that there has been a request to move the commuter bus turn around area near the SURC. Based on safety concerns, he and Mike Moon have recommended that the turnaround be moved next to the Davies Residence Hall. At some point the university may consider developing a bus drop off/turn around on the west side of campus, adjacent to the proposed NEHS building. This would provide a convenient stop for grade school visitors who participate in field trips to our campus.

Bicycle Safety Follow-up

Holly Pinkart reported that there was support from the Faculty Senate to close the main malls to bicycles / skateboards and redirect them to the east side of the SURC.

Loss Trends for May 2015

Jim Hudson reviewed the Loss Trend/Accident Statistics for May 2015.These reports are segregated by occupation and by cause and includes all accident reports, both major and minor. Betty Hawkins noted that she provided copies of the Near Miss/Incident Report to everyone in Dining Services and has been encouraging everyone to complete the forms when there is an incident/near miss.

The meeting adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
