Following up is important to ensure corrective action is taken.

In this section, you will find information to assist with conducting H&S inspection in the workplace, including such items as, ladder(s), First Aid Box(es), Fire Extinguisher(s), etc.

Regular workplace inspections are an important part of the overall occupational health and safety program.

Operating Procedures

A set of instructions having the force of a directive, covering those features of operations that lend themselves to a definite or standardized procedure without loss of effectiveness. Standard / Safe Operating Policies and Procedures can be effective catalysts to drive performance improvement and improving organizational results.

The presence of these quality documents is essential when inspections take place since the most frequent reported deficiencies during inspections are the lack of written SOPs and/or the failure to adhere to them.

Workplace Hazards:

It is the duty of every employer/employee to ensure that the health and safety of every worker is protected.

The employer/employee should ensure that workplace activities are performed with maximum safety and information is provided with instructions to protect the health and safety of workers. It is important for all workers to be made aware of any hazards in their workplace.

This section will provide you with information on how to identify hazards in the workplace, and the sources of such hazards. Job Safety Analyses of various equipment is provided to assist you in identifying potential hazards, if they occur and their severity. For example, when using the Deep Fryer, there are a number of hazards identified. Hazard Type is S, which means Safety: housekeeping, inadequate machine guarding, material handling and energy; and the Hazard Sources are Pe (People: actions) and Eq (Equipment: tools, production equipment). The severity of these hazards are 2/B, which means it, is a Category 2-potential for lost time injury/illness and has a Hazard Rating of B (Moderate). The D stands for remote injury/illness occurrence (no more than once per 8 years).

It is important to read through this section carefully, to comprehend the information that is provided.

Training:

One of the most important responsibilities of the employer is to ensure that workers are adequately trained in safe work procedure.

As an employer we shall ensure that the equipment, materials and protective devices as prescribed are provided; and that every reasonable precaution is taken in circumstances for the protection of a worker.

In order for this to happen, we have to ensure that proper training is offered to all workers to ensure essential knowledge and skills are taught/learned to perform activities safely and efficiently. In addition, all workers should have an annual review of training in order to refresh the information and to rectify any possible errors/unsafe practices that the worker might have developed.

In order to prevent any incidences/accidents in the future, it is the duty of every employer to train its employees.

Accident/Incident Process:

The purpose of this section is to provide you with the necessary information to deal with any incident/accident that might cause an injury to the worker. It also ensures that we meet regulatory requirements.

In the Incident/Accident Reporting section please note the necessary steps that need to be completed. For example, it is important to complete and fax a completed Form 7 within 3 days to WSIB* of any incident/accident that requires the worker to seek medical help or who suffers lost time.

Incident/Accident Investigations section provides guidance after the incident/accident has taken place. It is important to follow through with an investigation, as it helps the employer to understand what went wrong and to take to steps to prevent a recurrence of the hazardous event.

After the worker has been injured at work, it is important for the employer to keep contact with the worker. If the worker is able to work, you might be required to offer modified work to help the worker return to work.
