Headteacher: Miss E.J. Brown B.Ed (Hons)

September 4th 2015

Dear parent,

A very warm welcome back!

It is always an exciting time in school, welcoming new faces and settling into new classrooms.

We are delighted to welcome our new staff ………. our SENCo Mrs Hardwicke, class teachers Miss Irvine, Mrs Seaward and Miss Aquillar-Milan, our Sports teacher Miss Wall, music teacher Mrs Rea and Teaching Assistants, Mrs Wale and Mrs Sinclair and Learning Support Assistant Mrs Bruce.

During the Summer break, teachers spent much time planning exciting learning opportunities for the children. An especially designed Learning Poster for each year group is now on our school website along with class blogs and all sorts of other information useful to specific year groups. If you are unable to access the internet, please ask your class teacher or the school office for a paper copy of the relevant Learning Poster and we will be happy to provide one.

Class Assemblies

You are invited to join us on Friday mornings at 9.10am in the school hall for one of our weekly highlights ……… class assemblies. Dates for this term are as follows:

You are most welcome invited to stay for a coffee or tea in the hall after the assembly and between 10.00-10.30am to join your child in their classroom and learn alongside them. We plan to share a variety of information and skills including phonics, writing and e-safety. Please note that we cannot accommodate pre-school children during these sessions.

Some important reminders ….

If any of your contact details have CHANGED recently, please ensure the office has the new version. If you’re not sure let us have them anyway! It is very important that we are able to make contact with you at anytime in case of emergencies.

If your child is UNWELL and unable to come to school please telephone the school between 8.15am and 9.30am on the first day of absence, this saves our office staff a great deal of time having to telephone you at your place of work to check on your child’s safety.

Please ensure your child does not wear jewellery to school. Only small plain stud earrings are permitted and these should be removed on PE days. Watches may be worn, but please name them.

Requests for absence

At the start of the year it seems a good time to make clear the position regarding absence as there continue to be a variety of stories in the press.

Our school policy makes clear ……..

Parents do not have a right to take their children out of school during school time. It is at the discretion of the Head teacher if pupils are allowed to take absence of any kind during term time.

Permission may be granted for the following:

  • If a child is in an approved drama/dance performance or sporting activity for which a licence has been granted by the Local Authority
  • If a child is involved in an exceptional occasion - in authorising such an absence the circumstances of the case and the overall pattern of attendance may be considered
  • In exceptional circumstances permission may be given for a family holiday, exceptional circumstances being :
  • Service personnel and other employees prevented from taking holiday outside term time
  • When a family needs to spend time together after a crisis or other exceptional circumstance
  • Parents who are subject to a strict and non-negotiable holiday rota and evidence is provided to this effect

Parents are required to complete and send into school a leave of absence form 4 weeks before the proposed dates of absence. Ifa form is not received in time the absence will not be considered for authorisation. The Absence Form is returned to the parent with a decision as soon as possible.

(seeAttendance Policy is on the website)
