JOB SUMMARY: Performs all duties involved in serving and cleaning-up Head Start lunches for Lock Haven area Head Start classes on an as-needed (substitute) basis.

REPORTS TO:Health Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current PA Act 33 Criminal, Child Abuse Clearances and FBI clearances;

Seventeen years of age or older; and

Physical ability to perform essential job functions without any health restrictions, including the ability to sit for long periods of time, stand, lift and carry up to twenty-five pounds, have unrestricted use of the upper body, corrected or uncorrected hearing and vision within normal ranges and a clear speaking voice.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

General knowledge of Head Start program and its services;

Knowledge of sanitation standards;

Knowledge of food service and food storage temperature standards;

Communication skills including reading, speaking, writing, listening;

Ability to count meals and perform simple inventory;

Ability to demonstrate respect for individuals and groups with varied cultural, racial, ethnic, religious and linguistic identities or backgrounds;

Ability to establish positive relationships with people from varied social, economic and educational backgrounds;

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Available on an as-needed basis for approximately five hours on school days, as assigned;

Available for training to learn the requirements of the position;

Physical examination upon employment and within every fifteen (15) months thereafter; tuberculosis test upon employment and within every twenty-five (25) months thereafter;

Job-related trainings or meetings as required.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Keeps kitchen and all food preparation and food service areas clean and sanitary at all times;

Washes and disinfects food preparation and service areas, dining tables and chairs daily;

Keeps count of lunches ordered and submits count at scheduled time; maintains written records of meal counts, as requested;

Orders milk as needed;

When needed, prepares and heats lunches or parts of lunches;

Keeps foods at proper temperatures until time of service (hot foods at 140);

When needed and under the direction of Health Coordinator, makes substitutions for children on special diets or who have special needs;

Places foods in serving dishes for groups of children so that food is ready at scheduled times;

Makes sure amount of food specified by regulation is available to each child;

Washes and sanitizes all dirty dishes, utensils, pans, food preparation items, etc. daily and returns to storage;

Prepares supplies for next day’s food service;

Keeps food and food service supply storage areas clean, neat and organized;

Reports any food service problems to Health Coordinator;

Inventories food services supplies and reports to Health Coordinator any items needed;

Purchases minor food service supplies when approved in advance by Health Coordinator;

Communicates regularly with on-site teaching staff and with Health Coordinator;

Interacts positively with parents and community volunteers;

Completes any required paperwork in an accurate and neat manner;

Participates in staff meetings and training events as assigned;

Acts as a member of the Head Start team; and,

Performs other duties as assigned.
