The Post

The Head of Faculty is a member of the College’s Management Team and plays an important part in the decision making processes of the College. To provide Academic and Curriculum leadership in a defined area of the College’s activity through the management of the Faculty.

Main duties and responsibilities

ACorporate Responsibilities

  1. To be a member of the Management Team, to participate fully in decision making processes, and to play a significant part in the development, review and evaluation of the College’s Plan.

2.To play a major role in the development of innovation and quality in the College’s curriculum and to achieve the performance indicator and targets set for the Faculty.

3. To work flexibly and effectively, to maintain the highest professional standards and to promote and implement the policies of the Corporation.

4.To project a positive image of the College in liaising with external organisations and with all clients and customers of the College, including students and potential students, and to create business opportunities and income generation for the College.

5.To promote a positive attitude towards equality of opportunity in all aspects of College activity, and to lead or participate in initiatives designed to achieve it within the areas of influence of the post.

6.To participate fully in the Corporation’s Appraisal Scheme for staff and to take a proactive role in identifying her/his own professional development needs.

BManagement Responsibilities

Leadership and development of the Faculty Team to achieve the following:

1.To manage the development of the Faculty’s curriculum to ensure that it is flexible, innovative and responsive to identified needs, based on a regular self-assessment and development planning process, to achieve curriculum plan and business targets.

  1. To enhance optimum levels of efficiency and effectiveness through the appointment and development of staff, and utilisation of plant, equipment and accommodation.
  1. Ensure the requirements of 16-19 Study Programmes are met and implemented for provision in the Faculty.
  1. Ensure compliance with the College’s quality assurance requirements and external quality assurance frameworks e.g., Ofsted common inspection framework and QAA.
  1. Ensure teaching staff are efficiency and effectively utilised, meeting College targets and individual’s contracted hours.
  1. Ensure that student attendance is above College target for all provision including Maths and English.

6.To take action necessary to enhance quality in all its facets e.g.:

a. staff allocated to the Faculty must be regularly observed and appraised and receive appropriate and necessary professional support.

b.individual student performance must be regularly monitored and reviewed against the agreed learning plan, promoting successful student achievement, retention and progression.

c.courses and learning programmes must be continually reviewed and evaluated in accordance with the College’s quality assurance framework by course and programme teams.

d.physical resources and learning materials must be actively reviewed and evaluated against the operational and development needs of the Faculty.

e.monitor outcomes of learner feedback to ensure that feedback is responded to and action is taken to address any issues.

4. To ensure that all learners complete relevant and meaningful work experience to satisfy the outcomes of audit.

5.To improve profitability and business and educational performance through leadership and development of the Faculty’s external relationships in respect of:

-Marketing strategy;

-Employers and other potential clients/customers;

-Professional Associations and examinations and inspection bodies.

-Guidance and support for students.

COther Responsibilities

1.To undertake a teaching programme and / or cover where appropriate.

2.To provide reports and information, including statistical data, relating to activities of the Faculty as required.

  1. To ensure the College’s Health and Safety, Risk Management and Equal Opportunities policies are implemented.
  1. To identify the financial, health and safety, equality, confidentiality or other risks associated with the post’s sphere of responsibility and to define and take positive action to manage these risks.
  1. Carry out all the above duties in the context of the practical application of the college’s equal opportunities policy and acting responsibly at all times in order to maintain the health and safety of yourself and others.
  1. Carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.
