JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:Class Teacher

RESPONSIBLE TO:Headteacher, who has overall responsibility for the management of the school and to the deputy head who has responsibility for day to day management of the school.

  1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB
  • To organise and teach a group(s) of children providing a broad and balanced curriculum whilst ensuring that each individual child has their individual needs met and that progress is made, within the framework of school policies and the pupils’needs cited in their Statement or EHC plan.
  • To coordinate the work of other staff and visiting professionals within the class
  • To develop, monitor and review the curriculum and individual learning needs, and liaise with other staff and parents to implement agreed priorities
  • To be fully involved in the life and development of the school – in all it’s aspects
  1. KEY DUTIES

To be performed in accordance with the Teachers' Conditions of Employment Document

Classroom Teacher

  • To support and promote the school's vision, ethos and values
  • To plan and prepare lessons and other teaching/learning tasks to support pupils to make good or accelerated academic progress across the national curriculum and REand be accountable for progress made
  • To work within the framework of the school’s curriculum policies and in response to the special educational needs of the pupils assigned to him/her
  • To plan and prepare lessons and activities to support development of pupils with regard to their social, emotional, behavioural difficulties and associated learning difficulties, and be accountable for progress made
  • To deliver, monitor, develop and review the curriculum and make it accessible and motivational for all pupils
  • To contribute to and, in specific areas, take responsibility for high quality, relevant and appropriate classroom and school display
  • To attend meetings associated with the duties of teacher
  • Supervise the work of Teaching Assistants linked to the class
  • Work and liaise positively with colleagues, children and parents, educational support services and other agencies
  • To offer pastoral support in all areas of the child's school life
  • To further equal opportunities within the classroom and school

Assessment, Reporting and Recording

  • To plan and prepare individual programmes to meet the child's agreed needs within the requirements of their EHC plans, including setting, monitoring and reviewing individual educational targets
  • To monitor, assess, record and report on their development, progress and attainment
  • To prepare end of year reports for each pupil in the class
  • To prepare a report for each pupil’s Annual Statement Review/EHC plan and coordinate reports from other professionals working with individual children
  • To administer and report on Teacher Assessment or external tests and any modifications necessary

Curriculum Responsibility

  • To monitor and evaluate teaching & learning in curriculum area(s) in consultation with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team

(a)Have knowledge and understanding of the curriculum area, recording and reporting of pupils attainment and progress, as well as the characteristics of high quality teaching and learning

(b)Be clear on the expectations for planning, teaching and assessment

(c)Use school data to monitor and evaluate teaching and learning and use analysis to guide further improvement

(d)Use data effectively to identify pupils who are underachieving and alongside class teachers create and implement plans to support those pupils

  • To annually update the subject SEF and meet with curriculum committee as required including making short presentations in relation to specific roles and responsibilities
  • To lead professional development though example and provision of relevant and high quality training
  • To coordinate the subject resources - including:

(a) the development of a resource area inventory and keep the resources accessible and available

(c) agreeing spending priorities with the Senior Leadership Team

(d) advising on the purchasing of appropriate resources

  • To participate and contribute to school development projects
  • To promote and develop the curriculum area(s) in line with the School Development Plan

Professional Development

  • To participate in the school's Performance Management arrangements, in accordance with LA guidelines
  • To take responsibility for your own professional development, including keeping up to date of educational initiatives and developments at both local and national level through reading journals, the TES and Professional Association publications.
  • To participate in the current and future arrangements for inspection of special schools
  • Participate in further training according to professional needs or as required by the LA and the school in pursuance of changes or developments in educational policy, practice or provision
  • To participate in Inset activities - both receiving and delivering - in order to develop the knowledge and skills of the whole school team
  • To carry out any additional duties commensurate with the post of teacher, as directed by the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team

Teachers on the upper pay scale can be expected to make a particular contribution to building team commitment in line with the statutory requirement to meet threshold standards and to carry out any additional duties commensurate with the standards applied to Threshold Teachers, as directed by the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team.
