Havana & Choco Latte to Host“HungryforHealth 2016”Events

Healthy Acadia,working in partnership with restaurants in Hancock and Washington counties, continuesthe “Hungry for Health” 2016 campaign aimed at “Turning the Tide on the Opioid Epidemic Downeast.” Restaurants throughout the Downeast region are hosting “Hungry for Health” events to raise funds to support local substance education, prevention, and treatment resources. Healthy Acadia is excited to announce it’s two newest “Hungry for Health”partners: Havana and Choco-Latte.

Havana, located at 318 Main Street in Bar Harbor, has pledged to donate $1 for every dessert sold during December and Januaryto “Hungry for Health” to help fund critically needed substance prevention and treatment services in Hancock and Washington counties.Nearby Choco-Latte, located at 240 Main Street, will donate $0.25 for every choco-latte beverage sold during the same period. "Thanksto Havana and Choco-Latte for making it feel doubly good to have dessert or a hot drink this December and January--first through the taste and act of eating or drinking, and second through the knowledge that you are participating in an important effort," said Healthy Acadia Development Coordinator Shoshona Smith.

Havana is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from4:30pm-9:30pm and offers unique dishes with a Latin American twist using local, organic produce and meat. They will be open throughout the winter, with a 4-6 week break in February. Find Havana on Facebook, visit or call 288-2822.

For a morning or afternoon treat, you’ll want to head over to Choco-Latte. The café is open daily from 7am-5pm throughout the winter and features gourmet house-made fine chocolates, organic coffee, espresso, lattes, cappuccino, and of course, hot chocolate. Visit or call 801-9179.

Community members are invited to dine out at participating restaurants, where all funds raised will support local efforts to increase much needed substance education, prevention, and treatment resources.To date, Flexit Cafe & Bakery, Islesford Dock Restaurant, McKays Public House, Rose Eden Lobsters, Riverside Takeout,Siam Orchid, and 13 Freshies locations across Maine have participated in the “Hungry for Health” 2016 campaign.Over $5,500 has been raised since the campaign's launch in August.Fundraising events are plannedat restaurants in both counties through the end of the year.
