Thats right they are all oxymorons

oroxymoros if you want to get technical.

but where did they all come from?

Let's investigate:

What does the word oxymoron mean exactly; where did the word come from?

oxymoron is a figure of speech is a in which a pair of contradictory words are placed next to each other for emphasis

the word itself comes from two words: (write 'oxys' on the board)

oxys

which means :sharp, keen, or pointed

(writemoros on the board)

moros

which means: dull, stupid, or foolish

So, the word itself means:

sharp dull-two contradictory words

orkeen stupid -also contradictory words

In other words the word oxymoronis itself an oxymoron.

Leave it up to the greeks to come up with some great words!
