Harvard Girls Basketball Association Uniform

Guidelines and Care Instructions

Headbands, hair accessories & jewelry: Each player, if electing to wear a headband, must have the same color headband in her hair. All headbands must be black in color to adhere to IHSA and NFHS rules. If electing to wear a headband, only one headband is permitted, it must be worn on the forehead/crown, it must be nonabrasive and unadorned and it must be a maximum of 2” wide. Rubber, cloth and elastic bands may be used to control hair. Hard items, including, but not limited to, beads, barrettes and bobby pins, are prohibited. Jewelry is prohibited. This includes all earrings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets rings etc.

Uniform jersey, shorts and socks: The black uniform jersey and shorts is worn for all away games and the white uniform jersey and shorts is worn for all home games. Each player must wear black socks with both uniforms. A black sock with a white or yellow gold logo/design is ok (ie-the ones offered as part of the HGBA gear package) ,but a black sock with any other color then those of the team’s colors are prohibited. Colored socks like, hot pink, purple, lime green etc. are prohibited.

Undershirts and compression shorts: Undershirts may be worn under the uniform jersey top as long as it is a single solid color and the same as the jersey color worn (ie white must be white, black must be black). Compression shorts maybe be worn under the uniform shorts as long as the length is above the knee and they are a single solid color similar to the predominate color of the uniform being worn.

Uniform Care Instructions: Your daughter’s uniform is an expensive investment and with proper care, you can prolong the life of that investment.

  • Screen printed uniform should be washed immediately after each use if at all possible in coldwater.
  • The rinse cycle should also be set to cold water.
  • DO NOT wash uniforms with other items such as towels.
  • DO NOT use chlorine bleach!
  • Heavily soiled garments (grass, dirt, mud or any other heavy stain) use of a pretreatment is recommended.
  • Spray n Wash or Shout can be sprayed on the soiled areas and left for about 15 minutes before washing
  • Gels can be rubbed into stains and left for overnight absorption to loosed up the stain-wash the next day
  • OxyClean can also be used during wash cycle in cold water
  • Ink stains should be sprayed with hair spray and rubbed together until the stain is gone, then wash in cold water.
  • Remove uniforms immediately after washing and HANG GARMENTS TO DRY.
  • DO NOT DRY UNIFORMS WITH HEAT! If you must use a dryer, use the damp dry or air dry setting with NO HEAT. High heat will cause shrinking, bleeding of garments, printing to crack, flake and fade and twill to wrinkle. Dryers do vary based on age, model and other factors, so we DO NOT RECOMMEND ever putting a screen printed uniform garment in the dryer.
  • DO NOT DRY CLEAN OR IRON! To avoid static and lint build-up, use an anti-static agent such as a dryer sheet.

All of these tips are very important and a MUST to keep your uniforms looking and feeling like new.
