"H.P. Where Students Are Number One"
1. Our Book Fair was a huge success, raising $307 worth of books for the school’s library. The winners of the $25 draw were Craig C. and Kaitlyn R. They received $25 in books for themselves as well as $25 worth of books for their homerooms.
2. Our Peeler Card fundraiser has raised $1100! Thank you to everyone for continuing to support HP student activities.
3. Our school based Heritage Fair was on Wednesday, April 10th. Courtney R. and Logan R. were our first and second place winners. They both are representing HP at the Anglophone West School District’s Regional Heritage Fair. Congratulations goes out to all of our participants this year.
4. The Turn Around Achievement Awards were held on Wednesday, April 24. Dana C. was this year’s recipient. Kingswood sponsors these awards for students who have made a significant change in their behavior, academics and attitude.
5. HP’s annual Drama Dessert Theatre will be held on Wednesday, May 1st at 6:00pm. in the gymnasium. Donations will be taken at the door. Monies raised go directly towards the Drama Production. Tea, coffee and a variety of sweets will be served to those in attendance while they enjoy the Drama Production.
6. A reminder there is no school for students on Friday, May 3rd. This is a Provincial wide Council day for all teachers.
7. A reminder there is no school for students on Monday, May 13th. This is Anglophone West’s Branch day for all teachers.
8. On Tuesday, May 14th, HP will be hosting Mr. Ralph Harris, former Administrator of Harold Peterson at 10:00am. He will be addressing our students about the history of Harold Peterson Middle School. Mr. Harris taught at HP from 1959-1987. HP will be helping Mr. Harris celebrate his 80th birthday at this time. Our Glee Club will be performing for Mr. Harris at this time.
9. The Provincial Drama Festival will be held on Wednesday May 8th. This year’s performance is a Musical called Cool Suit. The Drama Club will be performing to our school on Friday, May 17th at 9:30.
10. A reminder there is no school for students on Monday, May 20th as it is the Victoria Day long weekend.
11. On Tuesday, May 21st, a pre-selected group of grade 8 students will be participating in the Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP). This assesses the knowledge and skills of students across Canada in the core subjects of mathematics, reading and science. This assessment will not affect your child’s classroom marks or report card. The individual results are confidential and will only be published as a cross-section, on Pan-Canadian and provincial levels.
12. Our grade 8 students will be attending their year-end trip to Quebec on Friday, May 24th, and will return on Monday, May 27th.
13. With the warmer weather upon us, we are asking parents and students to be mindful of HP’s dress code. All teachers will be reviewing this with their students. A copy of the dress code can be found on page 7 of the Student Agenda.
