Evaluation ofseven different tomato hybrids and variety in relation to fruityield, fruit weight, fruit character andfruit resistant against anthracnose

Abstract:Seven different tomato (Solanumlycopersicum) hybrids(TLBNTH 925, TLBNRH 1214, TLBNRH 2114, TLBNRH 1925, TLBNRH 2114, TLBNRH 1014 and TH-1) and variety (Shivaji)were planted at KrishiVigyan Kendra, Handiaya (Barnala), Punjaband followedrecommended package of practice (PAU, Ludhiana)while the cultivation of these hybrids and variety of tomato.These hybrids and varietywere evaluatedin relation to fruit yield, fruit weight,fruit resistant against anthracnose and other physio-chemical parameters were also recorded. Soil of experimental field was classified as sandy-loam. The vegetative, flowering characters, fruiting characters in term of fruit shape and size and average fruit weight of all the hybrids were recorded.It was observed that hybridTLBNRH 1214 taken lesser days in first fruit picking (112 days) where as hybrid TLBNRH 925 and hybrid TLBNRH 2114 taken 119 days for its first picking.and it was found that average fruit weight of hybrid TLBNRH 1514 has larger fruit size of 75.6 gm followed by hybrid TLBNRH 1214 (75 gm), whereas hybrid TLBNRH 2114 was recorded lesser fruit weight of 62.5 gm.Fruit yield per plant was recorded and maximum yield was observed in hybrid TLBNRH 2114 (2.72kg) followed by hybrid TLBNRH 1014 (2.62 kg) and lower fruit yield was recorded in hybrid TH-1 with average weight of 1.8 kg. On the basis of random plant selections average production per hectare was calculated and it was found that hybrid TLBNRH 2114 has found 680.8 kg and lower production per hectare was recorded in Shivaji variety of tomato (505.3Kg).The data revealed that hybrid TLBNRH 1214 taken least days for its first picking, higher production per hectare and free from anthracnose disease.
