PC Service Center

***Hardware support list – updated 10October 2012***

This list is a guide on what equipment is supported and to what extent by the PC Service Center in regards to hardware repair. Stocked inventory by the center and the availability of parts through the OEM manufacturer and third party vendors are always in a state of change.

We do our best to ensure that there are frequently needed parts for our recommended OptiPlex and Latitude systems in stock to handle repairs in the quickest time possible to reduce down time. The goal of the PC Service Center is to repair equipment within 48 hours (weekends excluded). Other Dell systems (Dell printers, servers and workstations excluded) are serviceable but since the components are not generally compatible with the OptiPlex and Latitude lines, expect service times to be longer.

Equipment under warranty will be diagnosed and serviced according to the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure compliance with our obligations as an authorized repair facility.

The following Dell computers are covered in a limited capacity due to their age and parts availability* – this is in no manner a statement of usability with current operating systems or applications supported by ITS.

Dell Computers:

OptiPlex 620 / Latitude D620
OptiPlex 745 / Latitude D630
OptiPlex 755
OptiPlex 760
OptiPlex 780

All current Dell or Apple computers that are still under manufacture warranty will be serviced in house unless there is a special circumstance that requires a “return to depot” service. The PC Service Center staffs Dell and Apple trained technicians who are authorized to perform warranty service.

*In general we have power supplies, keyboards, mice, optical drives and hard drives available to repair most Dell OptiPlexsystems. We also have limited supplies for Dell Laptops such as keyboards, palmrests, and power adapters.

Apple Computers:

Apple products pose a unique challenge in that repair parts are model and manufacturing date specific so we are unable to stock parts. Similarly, repair parts for out of warranty Apple products are in general so costly that the replacement of the equipment is generally a more realistic solutionfrom a financialstandpoint.

Apple iMacs and MacBooksunder warranty may be serviced through the PC Service Centerby one of our two ACMTs (Apple Certified Macintosh Technician) on staff. Some units may require “depot service” which we will facilitate once a diagnosis has been done to identify the problem.

HP Printers:

In general HP laser printers less than 10 years old may be serviced by the PC Service Center. Most HP laser printers have a usable life of 5-20 years depending on the model, and where/how they are used. Lower cost printers have a lower expected life cycle due to the cost of repair/maintenance parts to purchase price. More expensive printers are in general built to last longer, have higher volumes of print expected and the repair/maintenance parts to purchase price is lower.

Once a printer has been serviced and the parts to cost ration has exceeded 40% of the original purchase price, the printer has reached its usable life from a hardware cost standpoint. As an example an HP LaserJet P2035 printer costs $212.00 to purchase, a replacement fusing assembly is $129.00 and likely the first component on a laser printer to need replacement. In this example the cost of the fusing assembly would be roughly 60% of the purchase price and would be uneconomical to repair.

Unsupported Equipment:

Due to the nature of the product or lack of available parts/manuals/support the following equipment is not serviceable by the PC Service Center:

Dot Matrix printers

Any non-HP laser printers
