Monday--- Day 1 “My Robot”

Class will complete the following activities, details given on teacher’s guide pages noted.

  1. Sharing Literature with big book, On a Hot, Hot Day (understand the word luncheonette from context clues)---teacher’s guide pg. 124H
  2. Phoneme Deletion---teacher’s guide pg. 124H
  3. Word Building---teacher’s guide pg. 124J
  4. Daily Language Practice---teacher’s guide pg. 124M
  5. Writing---Students will draw a picture of and write about a favorite place in their neighborhood.
  6. Grammar: Describing Words (Adjectives): color, size, shape---teacher’s guide pg. 124N
  7. Writing---Have children write with description about a favorite place in their neighborhood and illustrate.

Tuesday---Day 2 “My Robot”

Class will complete the following activities, details given on teacher’s guide pages noted.

  1. Sharing Literature with poem, “We Could Be Friends”---discuss clipped words---teacher’s guide pg. 124P
  2. Word Building---teacher’s guide pg. 124Q
  3. Building Background—talk about robots---teacher’s guide pg. 124S
  4. Discuss story words---teacher will write the following words on notebook paper and display as discussion is done on how to break the words down to read: goes, heard, laugh, robot, roll, weather
  5. Words to Remember---textbook pgs. 124-125
  6. Prereading Strategies---preview, predict, set purpose, discuss fantasy/reality, reread aloud for comprehension strategy---teacher’s guide pg. 125A
  7. Discuss story genre: science fiction
  8. Class will read the story, “My Robot” text pgs. 126-143. Teacher will ask guided comprehension questions in teacher’s guide same pgs.
  9. Retelling the story using a list----teacher’s guide pg. 145A
  10. Daily Language Practice---teacher’s guide pg. 145B
  11. Teacher will model how to write a thank-you note. Then students will independently write a thank-you note. They will draw a picture of something that they would like to thank someone for and then write a short note that person.
