HANSON YOUTH FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP

In Memory of John Conroy & Colby McCarthy

Hanson Youth Football is making available two scholarships for $250.00 each to graduating seniors who have participated in the Hanson Youth Football Program for at least one year (see below).

The recipients will be selected on the basis of good sportsmanship, extra-curricular and community activities with no compensation. The scholarships are to be used only for the payment of tuition to an institution authorized to confer a degree or to a technical school.

These scholarships will be awarded by the Hanson Youth Football Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a high school senior who has participated in the program one year as a football player, or coach. Applicant should have participated in some form of community service for which they received no compensation. Must be in top 50% of the class.

APPLICATIONS:

Applicants must submit letters of reference and a letter addressed to the Hanson Youth Football Board of Directors detailing their past association with Hanson Youth Football, their activities in the community and their future goals in life (college, career, etc.) by April 2 to the Guidance Office of the Whitman-Hanson Regional High School.

SELECTION:

Awarding of the scholarships is based on the above.

JOHN CONROY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP– This scholarship was founded in memory of Hanson Police Sgt. John Conroy who died after he succumbed to cancer. Sgt. John Conroy served his community, coached children in sports, and fought his illness with great courage.

COLBY McCARTHY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – This scholarship was founded in memory of Colby McCarthywho died in anautomobile accident in 2011. Colby was a graduate of Whitman-Hanson Regional High School and the Hanson Youth Football program. He went on to serve the community and his country with great honor and courage and epitomized the type of individual we’re developing and all strive to be.

This scholarship is awarded to those who are not necessarily the smartest or most athletic, but have worked hard to achieve their goals and have helped others while in the process, making their life and the lives of others more fulfilling. Recipients must be continuing their education at a 2 or 4 year college in September. A copy of second semester college tuition billmust be supplied to the treasurer of Hanson Youth Football to receive scholarship monies.
