Job Purpose

Hang parts on racks in preparation for painting and remove parts from racks when painted.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Hang individual parts on various-sized bar racks for placement on paint line; must sort parts in preparation for hanging; follow order priority list; stacks parts in pans prior to hanging.

2.  Remove parts from bar racks when painted and place parts in tanks; may pack parts into boxes; complete associated paperwork; remove and replace full racks to ensure no over-processing.

3.  Resolve discrepancies in orders by verifying part identification with work order; may re-sort parts.

4.  Perform general inspection of painted parts and parts to be painted to maintain quality standards; sorts good parts from non-acceptable parts.

5.  May determine whether a failure is due to process malfunction or inferior quality of parts.

6.  May operate arm straightening machine.

7.  Keep area clean and neat to facilitate production and minimize safety hazards.

8.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

Position is under regular supervision, only exceptional tasks are checked. Employee receives specific instructions and selects from a variety of established procedures to complete tasks.

Problem Solving and Decision Making

Determine if parts meet quality standards and whether part should be rejected. May occasionally decide when to add chemicals to plating solution. Errors in judgement may not be detected until they have caused noticeable costs in time or money.

Relations with Others

Has daily contact with area co-workers, Lead and Supervisor and personnel from Assembly, Punch Press and Material Handling. The incumbent may participate in small group activities such as Quality Circles, task teams, safety meetings and other improvement efforts.

Equipment Operated

Plating machine, arm straightening machine, hazardous waste system, dryer and barrel cart. Must be able to use a respirator effectively. Moderate care is required to prevent damage to equipment.

Working Conditions and Hazards

General working conditions are good, occasional temperature fluctuations because of seasonal changes. Exposed to hazards of machine operation. Constant exposure to fumes from plating operation. Uniform safety practices consist of gloves, safety shoes, safety glasses and other devices as required.

Physical Effort Required

Continuous standing and visual attention, eye-hand coordination is necessary. Must work very quickly to keep up with machine. Requires frequent bending and stooping. Frequent moderate lifting of pans and containers. Effort is expended in pushing tanks in work area.

Learning Period

Two months are required to perform this job.

Qualifications

Skills/Abilities: Basic math skills. Eye-hand coordination is necessary. Must work very quickly, to keep up with machine. Read work orders. Work cooperatively with others.

Training and Experience: High school or equivalent. This is an entry level position.
