Dear Student and Parent/Guardian,

The 2015 Lady Tornado Volleyball season is approaching fast. Tryouts for the 2015 Lady Tornado Volleyball team will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 and Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Hammond High gym from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. for any girl interested in playing volleyball at HHMS. Please wear proper athletic clothing and shoes. Both dates are mandatory unless your eighth grade graduation is one of those two nights. If for any reason this tryout cannot be attended, please let me know prior to the tryout dates.

Enclosed in this packet are the following items: an application, a mandatory camp letter, payment details, important dates (for you to keep), a fundraising agreement, and a budget agreement. All the items listed above need to be filled out completely and brought to tryouts on Monday, May 18, 2015 or sent to Coach Babin prior to the above date. Girls will not be allowed to tryout without the application filled out and signed by a parent. For all girls that make the team, there will be a MANDATORY parent meeting on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the HHMS gym.

Summer Camp Information

2015 Season

Dear Parent/Guardian & Player,

Welcome to Hammond High Magnet School and thank you for your interest in the Lady Tornado Volleyball Team.

This letter is to advise you that if your daughter is selected to the 2015 Lady Tornado Volleyball team, she will be REQUIRED to attend a volleyball camp during the summer. For this summer, I have chosen to attend a two day skills camp at Southeastern Louisiana University. The camp will run from July 20-21, 2015. The cost of the camp for each player is $150.00. Camp fees will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to pay. There are also some great camps being offered in Baton Rouge the week of June 28, 2015. The cost of this camp is between $150 and $300. I would personally like you to attend one of the sections at the Baton Rouge camp, but I understand financially it might not be feasible.

We have attended summer volleyball camps for twelve years now. Players who have attended camps have a wonderful experience, advance their volleyball skills, and form lasting friendships. If you are serious about playing volleyball at the high school level, one of these camps will be great for you, especially as a freshman or a new player.

In reading and signing this letter, you agree that if your daughter makes the 2015 HHMS Volleyball team, she will be REQUIRED to attend a skills camp at your expense.

MAY

·  20th – First payment of $140.00 due to Coach Babin. Only checks/money orders made payable to HHMS Volleyball will be accepted

·  20th – Receiving fish dinner packets at parent meeting

·  20th – Pay for summer camps (especially if attending the one in Baton Rouge)

JUNE

·  2nd, 3rd, & 4th - MANDATORY workout for all NEW players (9:00-10:30 a.m. NEW players only, 10:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. ALL players)

·  2nd - Total number of fish dinners sold and money turned in (checks should be made to HHMS volleyball)

·  5th – MANDATORY Fish Fry Dinner

o  The number of dinners to be sold will be 45 for each player. A prize will be given to the top seller. (Each player will raise $180.00 towards their total payment if ALL 45 dinners are sold)

o  Each player and/or parent is responsible for selling and delivering their own dinners

·  9th, 10th, & 11th – workouts for ALL players 9:00-12:00

·  15th – Summer league at Lakeshore High School for all returning players

·  28th – July 2 – Camps in Baton Rouge

JULY

·  14th & 15th – Summer workout 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (One of these dates and/or times might have to be changed and/or canceled due to the LHSAA Coaches Clinic)

·  16th & 17th – Varsity team camp at Terrebone High School (players and staff staying the night)

·  20th – 21st – SELU Volleyball Skill Camp

·  22nd – 23rd – Summer workout 9:00 – 12:00

·  24th – 26th – JV and Varsity team camp at ULL (players and staff staying two nights)

AUGUST

·  5th - Starts MANDATORY workouts for ALL players; time of workout is TO BE ANNOUNCED.

·  8th – Possibly a team camp for varsity players at Country Day High School

·  10th – Second payment of $140.00 due to Coach Babin. Only checks/money orders made payable to HHMS Volleyball will be accepted

·  All camp cost are based on amounts from the 2014 summer. Camp amounts are subject to change, but should be within a close estimated of the amount given.

·  The girls will be given plenty of time off in the summer, so please make every effort to schedule summer vacations during these times. I know this is not always possible, so please let me know as far in advance of any vacation dates that conflict with summer workouts.

·  Every effort should be made to attend workouts in the summer. If you are in town, I expect you to be at the workout.

·  Just a reminder: Missing 3 or more MANDATORY volleyball events (including the camps, workouts, and FUNDRAISERS) means removal from the 2015 Lady Tornado Volleyball Team.

·  Please make arrangements to do all of your before school shopping, doctor/dentist appointments, hair cuts, etc. during off times.

·  No facial, ear, or belly button piercings after August 1, 2015.

Fundraisers

By definition, teamwork is the process of working collaboratively with a group of people in order to achieve a common goal. The Hammond High Magnet School Volleyball team provides your daughter with opportunities to become a well rounded and responsible young lady. Your daughter is joining a team that would like to teach them about pride, dedication, responsibility and time management. This year we will conduct two to three team fundraisers to help offset expenses. Some of the fundraisers will go towards individual expenses and some will go towards team expenses. The volleyball team is a self supporting sport and fundraisers are the only way we can receive new uniforms and new equipment, etc. The following rules have been established in regards to fundraising events:

1.  Each team member will be required to sell a designated ITEM or MONEY amount for each fundraiser.

2.  All money must be returned on the designated due date.

3.  ALL team members must participate in ALL fundraisers associated with the team.

4.  All players will have to sell 70% of the designated ITEM or MONEY amount set for the fundraiser or they will be dismissed from the team.

As a player on this team, it is your responsibility to work hard to complete your fundraiser obligations. Do not wait until the last minute and then expect your parent/guardian to pay for the fundraiser. That is not the point of doing fundraisers.

The estimated cost per player to run a successful volleyball season (includes practice gear, equipment, uniforms, referees, tournament/jamboree fees, etc.) is about $600.00. This price may vary from season to season, but this is a very close estimate. If a player only sells the mandatory 70% of the fundraiser, it will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to pay the remaining amount owed from the final set price. This payment will be due on the end date of the fundraiser set by the coach.

I agree that the final cost of the budget will be determined at a later date for all new players and old players for the 2015 Lady Tornado Volleyball Season. The practice gear set includes a practice jersey, practice tights, knee pads, one team t-shirt, a volleyball shirt, socks, shoes, backpack, team sweatshirt and insurance. All of the clothing is for my daughter to keep.

Payment/Dates (check or money order only made payable to HHMS Volleyball) Some of the fundraisers will go towards your daughter’s payments.

Even if my daughter quits the team or is asked to leave the team, for any reason, I will be held responsible for the remaining amount owed. The remaining amount owed must be paid by August, 10, 2015.
