INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES

CLINICAL REVIEW PROCESS

These clinical decisions can be reviewed upon request:

  • Eligibility
  • Intensity of IBI - Number of Hours per week approved
  • Private Provider approval
  • Discharge from IBI

Step 1:

If a family wishes that a clinical decision be appealed or reviewed, they will be directed to put their request to review in a letter to the Clinical Director and Clinical Leader of the Hamilton-Niagara Regional Autism Intervention Programwithin one month of the clinical decision.

Step 2:

Upon receipt of a request to review letter, the family will be contacted by the Clinical Leader informing them of the receipt of their letter, the steps to be taken and may gather any other pertinent information. The Clinical Director may also contact the family to gather additional information.

The Clinical Director will review the information received and the decisions made by the Regional Program and will present them for review to the Clinical Standards Team.

Outcome of this review will be documented and the family will be contacted by the Clinical Director informing them of the outcome of step 2.

Step 3:

Upon completion of Step 2, the Clinical Director will seek a second opinion from a psychologist or physician within Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation who is not directly involved with the Regional Program.

Outcome of this review will be documented and the family will be contacted by the Clinical Director informing them of the outcome of step 3.

Step 4:

Upon completion of the request to review process the family will receive a letter from the Hamilton-Niagara Regional Autism Intervention Program Clinical Director and Clinical Leader, outlining the process and outcome of the review.
