HAJJ ACTIVITY PROPS LIST

AIRPORT

  • Seating area – small chairs / benches, put down mats or sheets where they can sit

CHECK-IN & SECURITY

  • Two staff at check-in, Check -in desk and table from aeroplane
  • Check-in Sign
  • Microphone for announcements
  • Boarding passes
  • Lanes for queuing. Screens, benches or chairs
  • Bubble wands for security personnel
  • Boarding gates and no passengers beyond this point signs

AEROPLANE

  • Front of plane - Cockpit area
  • Air bridge– side panels with a sheet over it or cardboard tunnel
  • Side of the plane, Wings – cardboard props
  • Chairs for seats, chairs for pilot, pilot jacket and hat, cabin crew uniform
  • Prayer area at the back
  • Snacks for passengers: Platters to pass around – carrot and cucumber sticks, breadsticks, bowls of popcorn and crisps, flying saucers or similar sweet that can just be placed in the mouth but is clean and quick. Alternatively make little packed sandwich bags and all children receive one.
  • Please allow space for cabin crew to move around easily and help put ihrams on.

AIRPORT IN JEDDAH AND PASSPORT CONTROL

  • An office or reception desk.
  • Stamp/sticker and staff to stamp and check passports

MAKKAH HARAM SHAREEF

  • Kabah prop – make a large cuboid frame using planks. Otherwise tape together a large number of identical boxes – to make a hollow cube. Black Lycra fabric which can easily be sewn together by any tailor.

Kabah door - gold organza or net or similar fabric will work.For the Arabic motifs gold calligraphy on black sugar paper which can be stapled on or directly painted on to the fabric (but must take appropriate care afterwards)

  • Hajre Aswad – draw on to cardboard. Use aluminium foil for the silver metal casing with the hole in. Attach another card behind it and draw the pieces of stone on to the part.
  • Hijr Ismail (Hateem) – use small cardboard boxes and wrap with white bed-sheets. On a large A4 card print off three lamps and stick on to card and place on the hateem. Or you may wish to place small lanterns – CAUTION: glass
  • Maqam e Ibrahim – Use a fire-extinguisher and wrap with a printout of the Maqam Ibrahim. Or you may wish to use glass lanterns – CAUTION: glass
  • Safa & Marwa –Grey rugs or grey sheets which are placed over some excess boxes, furniture and pillows to make a raised hilly surface at each end. Mark a clear pathway down the middle with black tape if possible
  • Zamzam - Use a water cooler but if possible try to get hold of the zamzam drum. Dilute some zamzam with normal water so that the children truly do drink zamzam.

MINA

  • White gazebos and tents will be brilliant. Otherwise board screens with white sheets all the way over and round will also make good tents.

ARAFAH

  • A plain area

MUZDALIFAH

  • Blackout vital in this room. All light points should be covered with opaque blankets.
  • Starry sky – glow in the dark stars – will need to give them plenty of light when room not in use. Place two lamps in the room – otherwise the room can be too dark for children. When groups enter they must ensure room is dark and switch the lamps on to give it the night time feel. The lamps can be switched off when children nap.
  • Pebbles/stones (approximately 4-5,000) - make with newspapers (safe). You could use fish tank gravel stones. CAUTION: danger throwing them.

ABATTOIR

  • Two or three staff at abattoir – wearing white overalls – Ask your local butchers.
  • Camels, cows, sheep props. You can use soft toys, you can buy inflatables or you can get the real thing – mobile farm.
  • You can also show a power-point of what actually happens when a Qurbani is done
  • Packed meat boxes – cover cardboard boxes and label with qurbani meat and shipping stamps to demonstrate how all the meat gets sent to the poor around the world.
  • Possibly a mock slaughter – with the tasmiyyah – teaching it is an act of worship.

JAMARAAT

  • Pillars props – Large drawings on grey card / paper (or paper painted grey)stuck on to the wall. Ensure it is clear to spot the different sizes.

MADINAH MUNAWWARAH

  • Green dome poster above the entrance
  • Rawdah carpet – use green rugs preferably or similar Persian rugs or green sheets. If possible make the rest of the floor red.
  • Project images of the salam iron grids on opposite wall
  • Snacks to give out – ideally dates (link with buying dates from Madinah), also dried fruit like apricot otherwise anything you can show around in platters.
  • CD player with durood shareef being played or na’at in praise of our beloved (S)

EXTRAS

  • CD player or Audio system – playing Labbayk, Hajj nasheeds
  • Passports (maroon card), Tawaf Tasbeehs, Zamzam water, Dates, Certificate

SIGNS

  • Airport Signs – Yellow:

Check-In, Departures, Boarding Gates, Arrivals, Passengers only beyond this point

  • Travel Signs – Blue
