German conductor Markus Poschner begins his tutelage as Chief Conductor of the Bruckner Orchestra and Opera Linz this season.

Hailed as one of the most promising conducting talents of his generation whether on stage or in the pit, highlights of 2017-18 include productions of Strauss’ Die Frau ohneSchatten and Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust at Landestehater Linz, a UK tour with Bruckner Orchester Linz, Der Fliegende Holländer at Opernhaus Zürich, as well as guest conducting appearances with Dresdner Philharmoniker, Radio Symphonie Orchester Wien, and the Bamberger Symphoniker.

At the start of the 2015-2016, he became Chief Conductor of the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano/Switzerland. Poschner served as General Music Director of the Bremen Philharmonic and Opera from 2007-17. Under his direction, the Orchestra and Theater welcomed new audiences and increased attendance far beyond expectation becoming one of the most successful musical institutions in Germany. From 2011-2014 he was Principal Guest conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic where he conducted a highly acclaimed cycle of the complete Beethoven symphonies. A winner of the 2004 “German Conductors’ Prize – Deutscher Dirigentenpreis” he, subsequently, became First Kapellmeister of the Komische Oper Berlin, working with such established stage directors such as Hans Neuenfels, Peter Konwitschny, Andreas Homoki, and Sebastian Baumgarten. From 2000-2006 he was Principal Conductor of the legendary Georgian Chamber Orchestra in Ingolstadt, Germany.

A frequent guest conductor, Markus Poschner collaborates with many prestigious orchestras such as the Staatskapelle of Dresden, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphoniker of Vienna and Bamberg, the Radio Symphony Orchestras of Berlin, Stuttgart, Cologne and Copenhagen, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the NHK and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in Japan, and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo. Numerous engagements have taken him to the State Opera Houses of Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Zürich, and Frankfurt, as well as the Komische Oper Berlin.

Known for his impressive interpretations of Beethoven, Brahms, and Richard Strauss, Markus Poschner convinces his audiences with a fresh approach and unique programming ideas. In particular, his impressive skill as a jazz pianist has ignited a passion for exploring unknown aspects of music and combining unexpected styles of music.
