Homemade Dog Food Recipe

1&1/2 lbs. Ground Beef (80/20)

1lbs. Fresh Chicken Liver

1 Small Bunch Fresh Spinach

1Large Size Parsnip

1 Medium Size Sweet Potato

2 Large Carrots

1 Apple (cored)

2 Eggs, lightly beaten

2/3 C. Oats

3 Teaspoons Freshly Ground Eggshell

3 Teaspoons Kelp Powder

2 Teaspoons Ground Ginger (optional)

2 Teaspoons Turmeric (optional)

Dash of Salt

Cook chicken livers in boiling water for 6-7 minutes. Allow to cool. In large mixing bowl, combine: ground beef, eggshell, kelp powder, salt, ginger and turmeric. Chop chicken livers, add to ground beef mixture. Peel parsnip and sweet potato. Wash and dry spinach, pull stems off. Shred spinach, parsnip, sweet potato, carrots and apple in Cuisinart (or whatever works for you!). Combine shredded vegetables with meat mixture by hand, mix well. Add eggs and oats, mix well. Place in greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 ½ hours. Allow 20 minutes to cool before slicing. Allow to cool completely before wrapping in foil and a Ziploc bag and freezing.

Freshly Ground Eggshells:

Simple to make and keep. As you use eggs in your household, give the shells a quick rinse under cool water, set to dry on a paper towel. Let a few stack up, then grind them in a coffee bean grinder reserved only for eggshells. Put the finely ground shells into a Tupperware container for storage. They should be used in a ratio of 1 teaspoon per pound of meat.

Kelp Powder:

I order online at Amazon.com. You can also find it in some grocery stores. It seems expensive, about $20-35/lb., however, you only use 1 teaspoon per pound of meat, so that 1 pound bag lasts awhile.

Chia Seeds:

Great source of Omega 3 and fiber. There’s no odor, unlike Salmon oil! Find Chia Seeds in most grocery stores, Walgreens or just about any health food store.

How I feed my 70 lb. Doberman, Tina:

8-10AM and 7-9PM

Each meal consists of:

One slice of meatloaf, about an inch and a quarter thick

2 eggs, scrambled, overeasy, or hard boiled

1 Teaspoon Chia Seeds

How I feed my 8 lb Long Haired Chihuahua Mix, Louis:

8-10AM and 7-9PM

Each meal consists of:

1 Tablespoon of Tina’s eggs

2 Tablespoons of Tina’s Meatloaf

¼ Teaspoon Chia Seeds

I also add any leftovers that I have in the fridge that are suitable, no more than a tablespoon or two, at the most. I stay away from heavily seasoned foods, anything with lots of added butter or salt. I sometimes supplement with Chicken and Apple sausages, half a sausage per meal, or roasted chicken.
