Vacuum, as a working environment, has become indispensable for different research laboratories and also in industrial production units. Fields include microelectronics and instrumentation, material processing, space exploration, surface studies, pharmaceuticals, Food preservation and many other industries.

High vacuum applications like superconducting magnets and machines, particle accelerators, have resulted in rapid development in many sophisticated vacuum equipment, pushing the range of vacuum to 10-12 mbar.To keep pace with the advancement of vacuum technology, it is necessary for technical personnel to have exposure to this important branch of science and technology. For this purpose, Department of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering in collaboration with Indian Vacuum Society, Zonal Chapter Calcutta is organizing a workshop on Vacuum Technology & its Applications.

The scope of this workshop is to impart knowledge on avacuum science and technology and propagate the principles and practices of vacuum science and technology to UG and PG students, Research Scholars, Technical workers and Faculty members of EngineeringColleges and Universities.

Vacuum experiments will be demonstrated at the Vacuum Laboratory of the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Bidhannagar, Kolkata-700064. Faculty and Resource Personnel are experts/specialists drawn from Indian Vacuum Society (Zonal Chapter Kolkata)

Discourse and Practical experiments will focus on the following topics:

Basics of Vacuum Science

Production of Low, High Vacuum

360 years of vacuum Science and Technology.

Measurement of Low, High Vacuum.

Vacuum Materials and Fabrication Techniques.

Leak Detection Techniques

Application of Vacuum Technology in Research and Industry.

Registration Fee:

Students (UG/PG) Rs.1000

Others Rs.2000

Industry Sponsoring One Participant free

Each Registered Participant will be provided with detailed lecture note on Vacuum Technology & Its Applications and Registration Kit.Working Lunch and Tea in between sessions will be arranged. Certificates will be awarded to successful participants during valedictory session.

Attached registration form should be filled up by the intending participants and sent to the convener by 15 th June 2015, along with at-par cheque /DD payable at Kolkata in favour of “Gurunanak Institute of Technology, Kolkata”. Number of participants will be limited to 50 only due to constraint in laboratory.
