Guidelines for Victoria Challenge 2003

The Challenge:Each class is to identify a task which will contributetangibly to ourmove to the new school building. This contribution can be either aesthetic or ‘atmospheric’. The Challenge is to plan this task carefully and pledge to complete it within the time allocated. Classes may combine for difficult challenges.
Instructions:
1) Each class will discuss with their form teacher and mentor on the task that they want to do for the Challenge.The Challenge must be related to the Move to Siglap Link.
2) Class monitors are to complete the “Victoria Challenge 2003 Task Application Form” and submit it to the form teacher by 24 April 2003.
3) Each class must submit TWO proposals for the Challenge.
*Proposals from Sec 4 classes must take into consideration their limited planning time. This does not necessarily mean that their Challenge on the day itself should be any less demanding.
4) The Victoria Challenge Committee will grant approvalto the tasks.Recommendations and suggestions for each task will be given by the Victoria Challenge Committee.
5) The decisions made by the Victoria Challenge Committee are final.
6) Classes with rejected tasks will have to plan for another task and submit the application form again by 5May 2003 (refer to attached flow chart).
7) Classes without approved tasks by 5May 2003 or did not submit any forms will only participate in the Jogathon from Geylang Bahru Lane to Siglap Link on the 28 June 2003. Alternatively, they may be required to do certain cleaning duties in the new school building on that day.
8) For approved tasks, detail planning will be required by the respective classes. Class committees may visit the new school with their teachers’ approval to look for a suitable location for their tasks in May 2003.
9) Classes with approved tasks will complete the “Victoria Challenge 2003 Task Planning Form” and submit it to their form teachers by 16May 2003.
10) Once the move to the new school has been completed by the beginning of June 2003, classes are required to further plan for their tasks in the new school itself.
11) All students participating in the Challenge will report to the new school hall at 9 am on 27 June 2003. They are to complete their tasks and present them by 1 pm on 28 June 2003. Selected outstanding tasks will be viewed by President S R Nathan on that day. These tasks may become a permanent exhibit in the school.
The following tasks are confirmed for the 2003 Victoria Challenge. Approval will be given to classes who choose these tasks. If more than one class has chosen a particular task, the task will be given to the class which has shown more careful planning as reflected in their Task Application Form.

3. To prepare 1270 red and yellow helium balloons to be released during ceremony. / Any Class
4. To set up a Carnival balloon / Any Class
5. To bake 127 cakes / Any Class
The following tasks are suggested for the 2003 Victoria Challenge. Approval will be given to classes who choose these tasks based on the amount of planning that is reflected in their Task Application Form.
Task / Class Preference1. Paint a 127 m banner / Any class
2. Paint a huge ‘trampoline’ to cover the entire parade square where the ceremony will be held
3. Prepare a big VS torch where the President will light up at the end of the relay
4. Make 127 pots and plant 127 plants in them
5. Paint 127 pictures related to the new school or the Move
6. Make a model of the new school with matchsticks or toothpicks
7. Write 127 poems on VS with 127 lines for each poem
8. Build a sculpture that symbolises the school or the Move
