Guidelines for preparing papers

Papers must be prepared according to the following instructions. Please also refer to the example included for the format required.

PRIOR TO PUBLICATION, ALL PAPERS WILL BE REVIEWED AND EDITED FOR UNIFORMITY OF PRESENTATION USING THE COMPUTER FILE THAT YOU PROVIDE BY E-MAIL.

AUTHOR INSTRUCTIONS

  1. It is ANISG policy and tradition to provide each delegate with a book of short papers at the conference. No proceedings will be published. The full text of some invited papers may be included in the "Overtones" newsletter. Contributed papers should comprise, but not exceed, one A4 page in length and may contain figures, diagrams and references.
  1. Prepare the paper in Microsoft Word (Office 2007 or later version), and follow the specific instructions below:

Page setup and font: Set ‘page setup’ of Microsoft Word to ‘A4’ paper size, leaving a margin of 2.5 cm (one inch) all round. Use ‘Times New Roman’, 12 point throughout.

Start at the top of the page with the title centred IN BOLD CAPITALS, followed by two spaces, then the authors' names (preceded by initials) centred. Leave one space, and type the authors' addresses left justified, indicating addresses for multiple authors by superscripted numbers (1,2,…). Leave two spaces and commence the text in single spacing, justified on both left and right sides, with no indent at the start of a paragraph. Leave a line between paragraphs. Use English, not US spelling.

Suppress page numbering on the electronic copy.

Within the text, provide headings in BOLD CAPITALS, left justified, and secondary headings in lower-case bold italics, also left justified.

Figures: Graphs and photographs can be included. Either include them in the text file, or provide copies of appropriate size to match spaces in the text for them. However, note that coloured photographs, graphs and figures may not reproduce satisfactorily. In particular, avoid shaded backgrounds for graphs and figures. Where production difficulties are encountered with these, the editors will adopt alternatives such as descriptive text to communicate the information in them.

References: Indicate references in the text as ‘Smith and Jones (1998)’ or ‘(Smith and Jones, 1998)’, and list references alphabetically at the end of the paper under the title REFERENCES, in the form of: Smith, A., and Jones, B. (1998) Abbreviated Journal Name, volume number, first and last page numbers.

PLEASE NOTE: We require a short paper summarising the work done, or in progress. It is not acceptable to merely provide a paragraph stating that something “will be presented”!
