GUIDELINES FOR CANDIDATES INTERESTED IN CANDIDACY FOR EXECUTIVE OFFICE IN
JENNINGS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL FOR THE 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR
Jennings High School is a safe and inviting community where learning is nurtured and educators believe all students can achieve and meet the challenges of a changing world. In efforts to promote our school mission statement, all students interested in campaigning for Jennings Senior High School Student Council must meet the below stated criteria.
I. Academic Requirements
ALL students that participate in the Jennings Senior High School Student Council must prove themselves responsible young adults by maintaining an accumulated grade point average of 2.0 or above. Students must not be on Effort Suspension.
II. Attendance Requirements
ALL students that participate in the Jennings High School Student Council must maintain an overall average of 90% attendance, not be late to class on a consistent basis, and be active in at least one or more clubs or organizations within the school.
III.Confirmation of School Spirit and School Citizenship
ALL students that participate in the Jennings Senior High School Student Council must display a pleasant and positive attitude in and around the school campus at all times. The participant must acquire the signatures of his or her teachers, guidance counselor, and assistant principal or principal to confirm that they have practiced and performed positive school spirit and citizenship.
DUTIES OF STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS
STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT:
- Must be a member of the Class of 2017 and a current active member of STUCO.
- Must enroll in both semesters of the dual-credit leadership class.
- Shall preside at all STUCO meetings.
- Shall attend district and state MASC Conventions.
- Must attend the MASC Leadership Workshop in Fulton.
- Shall call special meetings when deemed necessary.
- Shall communicate and assist other student council members, the student council sponsor, and class sponsors in coordinating class and school-wide activities.
- Shall perform any duties ordinarily performed by the president of an organization.
- Shall be the official consultant to the principal and superintendent on STUCO activities.
DUTIES OF STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS (continued)
STUDENT COUNCILFIRST VICE PRESIDENT:
- Must be a member of the Class of 2017 or Class of 2018 and a current active member of STUCO.
- Must enroll in both semesters of the dual-credit leadership class.
- Shall assume the duties and responsibilities of the president in the absence of the president.
- Shall communicate and assist other student council members, the student council sponsor, and class sponsors in coordinating class and school-wide activities.
- Shall serve as co-chairperson of the Spirit Committee.
- Shall perform any duties designated to him or her by their class president.
STUDENT COUNCIL SECOND VICE PRESIDENT:
- Must be a current active member of STUCO.
- Must enroll in both semesters of the dual-credit leadership class.
- Shall assume the duties and responsibilities of the president in the absence of the president and first vice president.
- Shall communicate and assist other student council members, the student council advisor, and class sponsors in coordinating class and school-wide activities.
- Shall serve as co-chairperson of the Fundraising Committee.
- Shall perform any duties designated to him or her by their class president.
STUDENT COUNCIL SECRETARY:
- Must be a current active member of STUCO.
- Must enroll in both semesters of the dual-credit leadership class.
- Shall maintain accurate attendance records at all STUCO meetings, activities, and events.
- Provides STUCO members with contact information of all other STUCO members.
- Shall share an agenda minutes for all STUCO meetings with other student council members, the student council advisor, and class sponsors to help promote and organize class and school-wide activities.
- Shall serve as co-chairperson of the Communication Committee.
STUDENT COUNCIL TREASURER:
- Must be a current active member of STUCO.
- Must enroll in both semesters of the dual-credit leadership class.
- Shall maintain accurate financial records for all STUCO sponsored activities and events.
- Shall share STUCO financial reports at each meeting with other student council members, the student council advisor, and class sponsors in coordinating class and school-wide activities.
- Shall serve as co-chairperson of the Fundraising Committee.
STUDENT COUNCIL HISTORIAN:
- Must be a current active member of STUCO.
- Must enroll in both semesters of the dual-credit leadership class.
- Shall maintain historical records at all STUCO sponsored activities and events.
- Shall share STUCO historical information on bulletin boards, school webpage, and in presentation form with other student council members, the student council advisor, and class sponsors in coordinating class and school-wide activities.
- Shall serve as co-chairperson of the Communication Committee.
PETITION FOR JENNINGS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL EXECUTIVE OFFICE
FOR THE 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR

In order to be eligible for Student Council executive office, a student must:
- Have met the requirements listed on the back of this sheet of paper.
- Enroll in the Dual Credit Leadership Class for the upcoming school year.
- Submit this petition containing the signatures of 30 members of next year’s student body, two teachers, his/her guidance counselor, and the building principal.
- Create a campaign video to be posted on the school’s webpage with (agenda, platform, and vision for Jennings High School) and provide a digital copy to Mr. Spivey by Friday, January 22nd.
