6 May2015,

Dear senior’s groups and older residents of Cardinia Shire Council,

I am pleased to advise you of a new approach to Council’s support of the Seniors Festival celebrations in Cardinia Shire. This year we are excited to announce two major events for all seniors to enjoy. Our decision to focus our support around two major events follows a recent review of how we can ensure the Cardinia Shire community gets the best value for the funding we provide to this important yearly event.These events will be held on;

  • Monday 5th October 9.30am – 12.00pm

Guided nature walks at Kurth Kiln Regional Park, Beenak

  • Wednesday 21st October, 1.30pm -3.30pm

An afternoon of musical entertainment at Cardinia Cultural Centre Pakenham(including the official launch of the Cardinia Shire Council’s Age Friendly Strategy)

These events are currently being planned. Full details, including some additional bus transportfrom outer areas of the Ranges and Port wards will be available on Council’s website and in Council’s Connect magazine by earlySeptember.

Unfortunately, the growing number of groups seeking funds from Council means we are not able to continue giving each and every one of these events the same amount of financial support that was previously provided. The demand for funding also meant that we had to reduce the amount of money we could give to each group, often to a point where groups were telling us there was little benefit to be had from the funds they received.

As well as maximising the benefit of the funds available, we want to make sure that Seniors Festival celebrations are open to as many people as possible and allow residents across the shire to be able to come together and share fun, social and entertaining activities.

Council encourages groups to continue to organise events to celebrate the Seniors Festival. Contact Adrienne at Council on 5943 4157 or email to discuss the details of your activity and invite your local Councillors to come along as a guest to your event. We are also keen to assist groups to promote these events either via Council’s own channels or via other networks.

Enclosed is a promotion checklist and forms have been developed to assist you to promote your events as far and wide as you choose. Start to discuss your ideas early so you can host events that will contribute to thesenior’s celebrations in October 2015.

Yours sincerely

Kelly Burdack
