Public sector organizations usually have a clear mandate about what they are supposed to do and this is to some extent, determined by government and political imperatives. A major driver in all public sector organisations is the pursuit of improved performance by achieving more with less resource. The current economic climate is a timely opportunity for HR practitioners to add value and demonstrate how they can contribute to improved organisational performance. However, there is often a difference between how HR sees itself and how it is viewed by others in the organisation. Raising the profile of HR may help to mitigate these differences.

The aim of the management guide on raising the profile of HR is to provide relevant and practical guidance for senior HR practitioners in raising the profile of HR across the organisation so their contribution is recognised and valued. The guide is divided around the following areas:

  • 1. What is it all about?
  • 2. Why is it important?
  • 3. How do we do it?
  • 4. How do we know when it is done successfully?
