Guidance on using your eReader

What is on the eReader:

  1. The module materials for:
  2. Research Methods
  3. Psychology of Organising
  4. Psychology of Training and Development
  5. Personnel Selection and Assessment

How to use the eReader:

Detailed instructions are supplied with every eReader. We have arranged the documents according to module title; we have designated these modules titles as “collections.” You can see the collections by pressing the Menu button, then pressing Collections.

Podcasts are identified according to their module; you can see all of the podcasts by pressing the Menu button, then pressing Audio. Attach a set of headphones, and you can listen to the podcasts directly on your eReader.

Do I need any software to use with the eReader:

You might find it useful to download Calibre. This is a library software which will allow you to organise your books on your PC/Mac and also create new books for your eReader:

Can I add more documents to the eReader:

Yes. The simplest way to add documents is to first get the documents as PDF, on your computer. Connect your eReader. Then drag the PDF file onto the eReader into the database – media – books folder within your eReader. Now you will be able to read it on your eReader.

If you wish to convert Word documents to read on your eReader, it is a relatively straight forward process:

  1. Clean up the document—eliminate multiple line spaces and left-side indents. This is cosmetic --- the document is easier to read on the eReader if you do this. You might find this stage easier by Showing Paragraph marks and other formatting symbols (Hold down Ctrl + Shift + * to view these).
  2. Save as html; name it according to this pattern:

The document title – Author First name Author Surname

For example,

Assessment Brief – Gabi Witthaus.html

  1. In Calibre, click Add Books, browse and find your html document.
  2. Highlight your newly-added “book” and click Edit Metadata. Title and author name should have come over correctly; fix if not. (Tip: in this box, whatever you type in “Series “will establish a “collection” on an eReader. You may have “Assignments” “Extra Readings” etc. This is a good way to organise documents on eReaders.)
  3. Highlight your “book” and click Convert E-Books. In the upper right corner for Output format, select EPUB. Click OK at the bottom.

Along with your eReader you have received a CD of classic books. These are yours and you may upload as many as you like to the eReader. Additionally, if you install Calibre onto your computer and connect your computer to the internet, then connect your eReader to your computer, you can use Calibre to subscribe to international newspapers which you may then read on your eReader.
