Guidance notes for PROJECT FUNDING
What is the Safer North West Partnership and what is this grant scheme for?
The Safer North West Partnership brings together a number of organisations to tackle crime and disorder in North West Leicestershire. It includes North West Leicestershire District Council, Leicestershire County Council, Leicestershire Police, Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service, Housing Associations and others.
The Partnership is offering grants for projects which involve young people and support its priorities to:
- Tackle acquisitive crime(i.e. theftandhouse burglary)
- Tackle violent crime and abuse
What area is covered?
Grants will be available for projects based in the District of North West Leicestershire for the benefit of residents of North West Leicestershire.
How much money is available?
A maximum of £1,000 is available to fund each individual project.
Who can apply?
The scheme is aimed at organisations, community groups, schools and colleges, business associations, parish and town councils who operate in North West Leicestershire. District, county and borough council servicesare not eligible to apply.Where necessary, applicants will be required to provide a copy of their safeguarding policy. We also may request a copy of a group’s constitution and a recent financial statement.
What sort of activities can be funded?
We are looking for groups to carry out NEW projects and initiatives which help to tackle acquisitive crime,violent crime or abuse. This includes for example cycle theft, house burglary, theft from garages and sheds, theft from or of vehicles, domestic abuse, hate crime, cyber crime, assault, robbery etc.
Young people aged 7-19 years old MUST be involved in delivering the project. The project should benefit others in the wider community as well as the young people involved.
Examples of initiatives:
Start a property marking scheme at school and deliver crime prevention advice
Produce a film to promote awareness of an aspect of abuse to others
Organise a crime awareness event for vulnerable people
Produce a drama on cyber crime which can be presented to others
What can’t be funded?
Activities or services which are already established
Organisations’ running costs (e.g. staffing for youth group or sports sessions, coaching, or any other regular group meetings & sessions)
Attendance fees for existing clubs, courses or training events
What are we looking for in an application?
It is likely that we will receive more applications than money available. The Partnership will favour applications which:
Encourage young people to take an active and positive role in society
Demonstrate a clear need for a project
Are completed in full in a clear and concise manner
Increase awareness of crime prevention, violence or abuse leading to a reduction in incidents/increase in reporting
Have a positive social impact
What is the application process?
The Safer North West Partnership Grant Scheme application form should be completed in full. Forms are available at funding applications must be received by North West Leicestershire District Council by the closing date as detailed below.

Applications assessed:Thursday 17 September 2014
Grants awarded:October 2014
How will the grants be monitored?
If successful, you will be required to:
Complete your project within six months of receipt of funding
Provide feedback and progress reports on your projects including details of activities, spend and photographic evidence as and when requested
Participate with the Safer North West Partnership in any media events to promote the grants scheme and your work
Complete an evaluation at the end of the project
